As a part-time layout/pagination specialist for both our core newspapers and special section publications, you'll play a pivotal role in crafting engaging layouts. Your primary responsibility will be to meticulously organize and arrange content for print, ensuring that articles, advertisements, and images are presented in a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing manner. You'll collaborate closely with editorial and sales teams to create layouts that not only adhere to brand guidelines and editorial standards but also captivate readers' attention. Your keen eye for detail and proficiency with desktop publishing software will be essential as you navigate tight deadlines and manage multiple projects simultaneously. By leveraging your creativity and technical expertise, you'll contribute to the production of newspapers and magazines that inform, entertain, and inspire audiences.
Responsibilities:
Pagination Management:
Efficiently paginate news articles, advertisements, images, and other content for print publication using desktop publishing software.
Layout Design: Collaborate with editorial and design teams to create visually appealing and engaging newspaper layouts that adhere to brand guidelines and editorial standards.
Content Organization: Arrange content in a logical and visually appealing manner, considering factors such as hierarchy, readability, and space constraints.
Proofreading and Editing: Review layouts for errors in text, formatting, or design elements, ensuring accuracy and consistency throughout the publication.
Deadline Adherence: Work closely with the production team to meet daily or weekly deadlines, prioritizing tasks effectively to ensure on-time delivery of the final layout.
Technical Troubleshooting: Troubleshoot layout software issues and resolve technical challenges efficiently to minimize disruptions to workflow.
Quality Control:
Conduct thorough quality checks on finalized layouts to ensure they meet printing specifications and maintain high standards of print quality.
Communication:
Communicate effectively with team members, providing updates on progress, discussing layout revisions, and addressing any concerns or feedback.
This individual should possess the following skills/traits:
Experience:
Previous experience in newspaper layout design, pagination, or desktop publishing is highly preferred. Strong organizational and time-management skills. Should be able to work independently for long periods of time.
Software Proficiency:
Proficient in desktop publishing software such as Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign and Photoshop, as well as experience with Microsoft Excel and GoogleApps.
Attention to Detail:
Exceptional attention to detail and a keen eye for design, typography, and layout aesthetics.
Organizational Skills:
Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks effectively in a fast-paced environment.
Collaborative Spirit:
Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, including editorial, design, and production teams.
Adaptability:
Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and handle multiple projects simultaneouslywhile maintaining high-quality standards.

Primary duties for this position include layout and pagination of The Anchorage Daily News and our additional weekly papers.
