Job InformationOpen to the general public and any current Municipality of Anchorage Employee.These are executive positions (no union affiliation) and are subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.DEPARTMENT: Assembly - ElectionsHOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; times varyLOCATION: MOA Election Center, 619 E. Ship Creek Avenue, Suite 100, Door D. Other locations may apply.These are temporary positions working variable hours during the election season on varying days and locations starting in February through the end of April/early May 2025, depending on the assignment.Example of DutiesThe purpose of this position is to provide election support for the Municipal Clerk's Office prior to and immediately after either a regular or special municipal election or to assist with review of initiative or referendum petition signatures. Election workers prepare election supplies and equipment, conduct data entry, review voter qualifications, temporary address ballots, prepare form letters in Word, including using mail merge, prepare checklists and spreadsheets in Excel, operate the mail sorter machine, conduct signature verification, operate scanner machines, assist the public in person, on the telephone, via email, among other election related duties. Election officials are required to take an oath of office and are prohibited from engaging in partisan politics in any manner, as detailed in Anchorage Municipal Code section 2.20.055D. Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / PreferencesMust be a qualified voter in accordance with AS.15.05.010.QUALIFICATION OF VOTERS:Sec. 15.05.010. Voter qualification.A person may vote at any election who
is a citizen of the United States;
is 18 years of age or older;
has been a resident of the state and of the house district in which the person seeks to vote for at least 30 days just before the election; and
has registered before the election as required under AS 15.07 and is not registered to vote in another jurisdiction; AND
Must be a qualified voter in accordance with AMC 28.30.010 VOTER QUALIFICATIONS:A. To vote in any municipal election, a person must be:
A qualified voter of the state;
A resident of the municipality for 30 days immediately preceding the election; and
Registered to vote in state elections at a residence address within the municipality at least 30 days before the municipal election at which the person seeks to vote.
B. In order to cast a valid vote for a candidate or a ballot measure relating to a specific local election district or service area, the voter shall be registered 30 days before the municipal election at a residence address within the boundaries of that district or service area.Preferences:
