Apply NowTo have actual charge of the management and operations of the Columbus Light and Water systems and the enforcement and execution of all the rules, regulations, programs, plans, and decisions made and adopted by the Commission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Formulates, with senior management staff, viewpoints, objectives, and policies of the Utility for recommendation to the Commission.

Directs the day-to-day operations and activities of the Utility. Delegates appropriate authority to the immediate staff.

Develops, recommends, and upon approval of the Commission, operates within an annual budget.

Ensures all funds, physical asserts and other property of the utility are appropriately safeguarded and administered.

Maintains effective relations with other organizations, both public and private.

Selects, appoints, transfers, promotes, and releases all employed personnel with concurrence by the Commission.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

A bachelor’s degree is required. Degrees in business administration, economics, engineering, finance, or related discipline are preferred. It is desirable to have at least (5) five years’ experience in utility work or work with a utility as a professional.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to maintain good working relationships with various departments of the City of Columbus.

Must exemplify superior leadership skills among inter-management and the ability to work well with people of all walks of life to include civic leaders, employees, elected officials, and the general public.

Must have a strong combination of inter-personal skills and skills such as decision-making, problem solving, conflict management, presentations, analytical and reasoning.

Must have the ability to effectively handle difficult people in an authoritative but very professional manner.

Must have a thorough understanding of the operations of the utility and the services it provides.

Must be thoroughly familiarized with all company policies to include electric and water policies, rules and regulations and city ordinances.

Must demonstrate fairness and equality to all employees and customers in conjunction to human ethics.

Must exemplify great ethics in all aspects of business and travel.

Must demonstrate commitment in preserving and enhancing the well-being of the municipality while providing quality service at the lowest possible rates.

Must have and maintain a valid Mississippi’s Driver’s License.
