Job Title: Maintenance of Traffic Laborer
Job Summary:
The Maintenance of Traffic Laborer is required to perform temporary traffic control operations in order to maintain traffic on a roadway construction project in a manner that protects and conveys the public in an efficient manner within a specified work zone.
Essential Job Functions:
Includes, but is not limited to, the job specifications contained herein. Additional duties or job functions may be required as deemed necessary by management personnel to contribute to the team effort.
Set-up and maintain traffic control devices, installation and service work-zone signs, lights, detours and lane closures
Coordinate services with the on-site client representative or officials
Load and unload equipment into and out of company trucks
Deliver / Pick-up equipment from customer jobsites
Coordinate activities of traffic control laborers to ensure compliance with MOT guidelines
Make recommendations on existing conditions to coordinate procedures for traffic maintenance activities
Complete daily paperwork and reports as required by supervisor
If an approved driver, may operate a company vehicle and maintain company standards with Motor Vehicle Record
Desired Qualifications:
Minimum of 2 years in Maintenance of Traffic / Temporary Traffic Control or related industry (i.e. Road Construction, Highway Maintenance, Construction)
Able to communicate clearly both written and verbally
Required Skills:
Repeated physical effort including driving for several hours per day or several hours at a time, standing and walking for extended periods of time (more than several hours), loading and unloading equipment into and out of company vehicles, walking on varying ground surfaces and frequently lifting a minimum of 50 pounds
Working from elevated platforms, ladders or truck beds
Operating hand/power tools, manual dexterity to operate keyboards and smart phones, physical agility to use arms, legs and hands repetitively
Working outdoors, working safely under adverse environmental and weather conditions which include high speed traffic areas, heavy construction equipment, fuel fumes and construction substances
Comfortable around vehicles moving through work zones and maintaining constant awareness of surroundings on construction site including placement of machinery and equipment, other employees and construction activities
Vision adequate to see moving vehicles, read highway construction MOT signs, read instructions, manuals, reports, and construction plans
Hearing adequate to hear approaching vehicles, audible commands at a distance from supervisors, conversations in person, and over the telephone
Communicating clearly - both written and verbally, ability to complete daily paperwork as required by supervisor
Working a flexible schedule which can include day or night shifts, weekends and/or holidays, adjusting to a changing work schedule, working overtime and working individually and as a team with other employees
Valid driver's license required, will require passing MVR and controlled substance test, may require background and criminal record check. Knowledge of local driving rules and regulations
Must maintain company standards post-employment for background checks, criminal record, driving record and controlled substance/drug testing
