Position Overview:

The entry level Project Scientist I (PS1) position is involved conducting air emission testing in a variety of industrial settings. A PS1 will support all aspects of emission testing projects as part of a project team with an emphasis on hands-on tasks. A PS1 is expected to grow into a more advanced PS2 role within a year of onboarding. This position does require travel (paid by employer) an average of 3 to 4 nights a week, primarily during weekdays.

Duties & Responsibilities:

Successfully adhere to Health and Safety Program Manual,

Follow DOT requirements as trained when applicable, involves proper use of an Electronic Logging Device (ELD) for regulated travel events.

Conduct emission testing using various EPA promulgated test methods.

o Assist in equipment setup and breakdown procedures.

o Assist in sample procurement.

o Assist in sample recovery.

o Assist in quality assurance and quality control procedures, work to make corrections/repairs if necessary.

Perform maintenance and calibrations of test equipment and mobile laboratories

Prepare sampling equipment according to procedures outlined in EPA test methods and internal AST SOPs

Work from a prepared list to organize and load project specific equipment.

Unload and properly store equipment post project.

Safely drive the truck/mobile laboratory to and from project sites.

Collect and record electronic data during the test program.

Minimum Requirements:

Education – Must have High School Diploma. AS or BS degree preferred (Science and Engineering related fields ideal)

Experience – No prior emission testing experience required but would be very desirable. Experience working in an industrial environment is a plus as well as experience in an environment where problem solving and adaptation to change are commonplace.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities - Good verbal communication skills along with professional appearance and behavior. Ability to maintain a positive attitude with ability to work well in groups and strong desire to achieve goals and grow within the company. Ability to work safely in both industrial and office environments. Work and/or educational experience in a science or engineering background is a huge plus. Good hands on lab skills are required.

Certifications - Valid driver’s license

Physical Requirements - Flexibility to work 40+ hour week frequently. Consistent standing or walking, bending, crouching or stooping, climbing ladders and/or stairs, frequent lifting of objects weighing up to 75 pounds. Distinguish between shades of color. Work at elevated heights up to 300 feet.
