At Building Diagnostics & Property Science (BD&PS), we specialize in delivering high-quality commissioning and energy performance solutions to healthcare, educational, commercial, state, and federal clients. We are currently seeking a driven and experienced Senior Commissioning Engineer to join our growing team. In this key leadership position, you'll be responsible for managing projects, developing staff, and ensuring top-quality performance across all phases of commissioning.
About the Role
As Senior Commissioning Engineer, you will lead and direct commissioning services from planning and design through construction, occupancy, and operations. You’ll guide internal teams, collaborate with clients and contractors, and represent the owner’s interests to ensure building systems perform efficiently, sustainably, and as intended.
This position requires occasional travel (10–20%) to project sites—primarily in the Southeast and Eastern U.S.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage commissioning efforts across multiple projects.
Develop commissioning strategies, plans, and testing procedures for Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, and building control systems.
Perform and oversee design reviews, submittal reviews, site inspections, and functional performance testing.
Guide and support commissioning team members, assigning tasks and reviewing deliverables.
Prepare commissioning documentation including reports, checklists, deficiency logs, and issue resolution plans.
Interface with owners, architects, engineers, and contractors to resolve field issues and improve performance outcomes.
Represent BD&PS in client meetings, professional organizations, and industry events.
Qualifications
Minimum Required:
Professional Engineer (PE) license
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
10+ years of total experience in engineering, MEP systems, controls, or construction.
Minimum 3 years of direct experience in building commissioning.
Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
Willingness to travel regionally for site work and project meetings.
Preferred:
CxA Certification (BCA, AABC, NEBB) or equivalent – Preferred but not required.
LEED Accreditation or knowledge of sustainable design requirements.
Experience with energy audits, controls testing, and existing building commissioning.
Familiarity with ASHRAE commissioning processes and energy efficiency standards.
Familiarity with IBC, IMC, IEC, NFPA, NEC, and LEED as related to building commissioning.
Experience in healthcare, higher education, or federal construction environments.
