    These positions are located in Yellowstone National Park, in the Maintenance Division, Utilities Branch. Please visit find a park for additional park information.

    THIS IS A REQUIRED OCCUPANT POSITION. INCUMBENT WILL BE REQUIRED TO RESIDE IN GOVERNMENT ASSIGNED HOUSING. HOUSING IS GENERALLY LIMITED TO SMALL APARTMENTS WITH LIMITED STORAGE OR GARAGE SPACE. We strongly suggest you thoroughly investigate the winter lifestyle characteristics in Yellowstone National Park interior sites.

    Responsibilities

    Incumbent will serves as primary operator for primary, secondary, and tertiary wastewater treatment facilities. Must be familiar with all aspects of operating, test, compliance, plant evaluation and efficiency. Accurately records and reports results of testing. Incumbent is also responsible as the backup operator for the water treatment plant and distribution system as well as backup operator for the other plants and systems in the other areas throughout Yellowstone as the need dictates. The incumbent will be required to do other duties as directed by the District Maintenance Supervisor to keep continuity of ongoing operations. This includes, but is not limited to, operating snowmobiles, and their related attachments, operation of standby generator systems, emergency repairs to buildings, shoveling roofs, and work's on heating units, activating and deactivating quarters, and performs janitorial duties.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The incumbent of this position will be fully engaged with all aspects of water and wastewater treatment operations, and must be able to perform strenuous physical labor at elevations

    from 6500 to 12,000 feet, like walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting and sitting for long periods of time, and lift and carry loads up to 100 pounds.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT: The individual will be required to work inside and outside in all types of weather. Winter time temperature can often dip to -40 degrees Fahrenheit, must be able to operate a snowmobile. Summer time temperature will can reach 80+ degrees. There is a potential for falls, electrical shock, burns, cuts, and the exposure to hazards such as chemicals, wastewater, machines, equipment, and noise. Operates vehicles and equipment in all types of weather extremes (sun, rain, snow, ice, fog, and strong wind), is exposed to traffic hazards through vehicle and equipment operation and hand labor type projects.

    • U.S. Citizenship required. Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males. Must be 18 years of age.
    • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

    • Driver's License: must submit (in State sealed envelope directly from the State authorities), at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.

    • Occupancy of government quarters is required.
    • If you are a new employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
    • Must have current water/wastewater certifications as reflected in the assessment questionnaire. If in a state other than Wyoming, must immediately seek reciprocal certification and obtain within one year.

    Additional Area Information: A pool of snowmobiles for personal use is available on a reservation system, reservations can be affected by other priorities. Medical services, grocery shopping, banking, entertainment, UPS, and other delivery services are NOT available in the winter in the interior of the park. The US Mail is delivered twice a week or less in the winter. No schools exist in the interior. Schools are available only outside the park. A post office, a general store, and service stations are available in Old Faithful in the summer, generally from mid-May to mid-September. Many community services are available at West Yellowstone, Montana, 30 miles driving distance to the west. Although this isolation is acceptable to some employees, many soon find it a hardship for themselves and their families. Reassignment to Mammoth or the West Entrance is not an option.

    • Resume which includes a list of all significant jobs held and duties performed. If military or civilian, please include your rank and/or grade.

    • Merit Promotion Eligibility Documentation such as:

Position requires Water Treatment Level III, Water Distribution Level II, Wastewater Treatment Level III, and Wastewater Collection Level II.

    • Documentation for Interagency/Career Transition Assistance Plan consideration if you are a displaced Federal employee within the local commuting area. You must include: 1) Proof you are a displaced Federal employee, e.g., RIF Separation Notice, Notice of Proposed Removal, etc; 2) SF-50s (Notifications of Personnel Action) showing career/conditional tenure competitive status, promotion potential and duty location; and 3) your most recent performance appraisal. To exercise selection priority, displaced or surplus Federal employees must be rated well-qualified or above 85 on the rating criteria for this position.
