Head Soccer Coach

The soccer coach is a member of the Sheridan College (SC) intercollegiate athletics department of the Northern Wyoming Community College District (NWCCD). This position reports directly to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs / Athletic Director. Sheridan College soccer competes in Region IX of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA). The SC soccer coach is responsible for managing all operations for the men and women’s programs to maintain a competitive intercollegiate team. The coach provides leadership and direction to support student-athlete success in the classroom and on the soccer pitch. The coach provides leadership and direction to the assistant coaching staff (volunteer and paid) and is responsible for fundraising for the soccer program. SC soccer will maintain a positive reputation with the community and SC Booster Club under the head coach’s leadership. The soccer coach will be a positive contributor to the athletic department and Sheridan College.

Supervisory and Management Responsibility:

Provide essential supervision to assistant coaches, managers, and student employees

Reports To : Associate Vice-President for Student Services / Athletic Director

Education/Qualifications

    Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Demonstrated successful coaching experience at secondary or post-secondary levels or equivalent levels in club venues.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Earned master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher learning.

  • Three years of successful coaching experience at the collegiate level.
  • The ability to recruit student-athletes to a rural community college soccer program.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NJCAA rules
  • Demonstrated experience of running a successful Soccer program
  • Ability to communicate (written and orally)
  • Thorough understanding and ability to teach soccer principles

  • Ability to apply technology and social media platforms to enhance the program
  • Knowledge and familiarity with recruiting and its associated networks
  • Maintain working knowledge of and ensure compliance with Title IX and Clery Act Campus Safety Authority guidelines and responsibilities and related college procedures and expectations.

Working Conditions/Physical Requirements

  • Ability to work extended hours, weekends, and periods of time outside the traditional academic calendar
  • Adaptable to travel for games and recruiting
  • Comfortable working with representatives of the media

  • Comfortable working with members of college staff and community members

Experience

Demonstrated successful coaching experience at secondary or post-secondary levels or equivalent levels in club venues.

Three years of successful coaching experience at the collegiate level preferred.

Responsibility/Duty

    Manage a Successful Men’s and Women’s Soccer Program
  • Recruit quality student-athletes.
  • Plan and execute effective practices.
  • Plan a competitive game schedule each season.
  • Assist in game management duties for home contests including scheduling and contracting game officials and assisting in the facility set up.

  • Manage travel plans for away contests.

  • Select, train and supervise coaching staff and student employees.

    Manage Student Athlete Success
  • Monitor student-athlete satisfactory academic progress to ensure eligibility and success.
  • Manage student conduct according to NWCCD student code of conduct and NWCCD athletic code of conduct.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the NWCCD staff to promote and support student-athlete success on campus including but not limited to Campus Life & Housing, Admissions, Advising Services, Counseling, and Campus Police.

    Administrative Duties
  • Manage the scholarship and operating budgets for the men and women’s teams including annual request or student fees.
  • Manage SC Soccer Booster Club accounts.

  • Coordinate inventory needs for the SC soccer program.
  • Understand and comply with rules and standards of NWCCD and NJCAA, Title IX, the Clery Act and the Violence Against Women Act.

Responsibility/Duty

    Community and College Activities
  • Represent the athletic department and soccer programs at various events that support Sheridan College, the SC Booster Club, and SC athletics including but not limited to academic and student-life events, youth sports camps and fundraisers.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Sheridan College student services staff to promote athletics in student life and campus activities.

  • Work collaboratively with staff members of the athletic department to promote the success of all athletic programs at Sheridan College.

  • Actively participate in the SC Athletic Booster Club to support fundraising for SC Athletics and SC Soccer.
