interdisciplinary health care teams to deliver cost effective,
quality health care for both inpatients and outpatients. The
Inventory Specialist/Procurement Pharmacy Technician oversees the
operational responsibility for all ongoing inventories of drug
products and pharmaceutical supplies and their procurement, and
utilizes government purchase card as set by VHA guidelines.Learn more about this agencyResponsibilitiesProcurement:
Incumbent has operational responsibility for all ongoing inventories
of drug products and pharmaceutical supplies and their procurement,
ensuring cost-effective turnover is consistently identified and
maintained. Utilizes basic accounting and budgetary skills to assure
pharmaceuticals and supplies are maintained in the most
cost-effective manner. Thoroughly understands the multidisciplinary
functions in the A&L (Acquisition & Logistics) Fiscal-Pharmacy cycle
to identify and eliminate bottlenecks relating to the receipt of
purchases and maintaining the pharmacy budget. Familiar with
military depot purchasing, catalog utilization, updated bulletin
applicability, and prime vendor. Processes outdated, unusable, and
excess inventory for return via the respective manufacturer(s) or
reverse distributor.
Follow-up review occurs to ensure receipt of merchandise, credit,
etc. Assists in effecting recalls of drugs, as required, by checking
applicable lots and informing appropriate personnel. Utilizing an
excellent working knowledge of all US Pharmacopoeia, Joint
Commission (JC), and VHA manual storage requirements, the incumbent
determines well-defined storage locations and ensures storage
conforms to VA and OSHA standards. Supervises the receipt of
incoming orders, assuring each item is correct as to identity,
strength, quantity, and expiration date. The incumbent will report
all discrepancies to the vendors and follow proper procedures to
ensure the correct paper work is submitted and the drug returned,
reordered, or credit is issued. When updating cost data, if there is
a substantial change in the price of an item, the incumbent will
notify the prime vendor to determine if there is a problem with the
contract or a mistake in pricing.
Fund Control Point Management:
Maintains accountability of daily purchases and coordinates receipt,
controls budget ledger, assures consistent delivery schedules are
employed and handled in a manner mutually beneficial to A&L and
Pharmacy Service, and appropriately disperses stock into designated
storage areas.
Government Purchase Cardholder:
Incumbent is an authorized user of the Government Purchase Card.
Inventory Management: Determines, establishes, and modifies, as
necessary, appropriate ordering intervals, inventory levels, most
efficient/effective ordering quantities, sources of supply, etc.,
based on current financial conditions in pharmacy, seasonal
variations in drug usage, changing patterns of medical practice,
delivery time requirements, urgency of medical need, alternative
sources of availability, etc.
CBOC Support:
Performs onsite visits biannually to each CBOC. Independently
manages the pre-packaged medication requirements for each CBOC and
updates inventory lists as needed. Coordinates with supervisors and
prescribers on their specific needs for addition or subtraction of
stock.
Ostomy/Wound Care Items:
Meets with nursing staff, family members and veterans with special
needs to ensure correct medical supplies are ordered.
Records Maintenance:
Maintains an elaborate system of retrieval. Maintains an elaborate
system of retrieval. Files must be routinely purged to avoid
accumulation of obsolete material. The incumbent services as the
first line between company representatives and pharmacy managers. As
a result, the managers rely heavily on the incumbent's ability to
effectively interpret, screen, and transmit accounting and
availability data.
Obtains all MSDS for personnel working areas where drugs are stored
or administered.Additional roles and responsibilities may be assigned as determined
by the Chief, Pharmacy Service or the Assistant Chief, Pharmacy
Service. The incumbent will serve as a back-up to the clinical
pharmacy technician weekly and as needed.Must be responsible for the self-development, mandatory training,
and education necessary to maintain certification/licensure, stay
current with the practice of pharmacy and Joint Commission
standards, and meet facility training requirements.Work Schedule: Full Time, Shifts may include days, evenings,
weekend and holiday coverage between the hours of 7:00 am and 4:30
pm.

Basic Requirements:

Creditable Experience: To be creditable, the experience must

Part-time Experience: Part-time experience as a pharmacy
technician is credited according to its relationship to the
full-time workweek. For example, a pharmacy technician would receive
