We now seek a Training Lieutenant in Rawlins to conduct a variety of training for all levels of WDOC staffHuman Resource Contact: 307-777-6136ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

Research, design, develop, evaluate, edit and revise lesson plans.

Develop performance objectives.

Design and develop training aids.

Evaluate and measure the participant's increased knowledge base and skill set.

Perform task and needs assessments.

Plan annual curriculum, ensuring that supplies and materials are available.

Facilitate training through delivering lectures, facilitating group discussions and activities, monitoring and evaluating guided practice.

Ensure participant safety.

Document training attendance.

Provide a safe, interactive learning environment by using the adult learning theory.

Maintain instructor certifications and skill level.

Travel to participate in and/or facilitate training.

May be required to perform line lieutenant duties such as shift supervision, inmate disciplinary process, security audits, inspections, coordinating schedules and responding to incidents within the facility

QualificationsPREFERENCES: Preference may be given to those with previous training experience related to DOC Academy Training Modules to include, but not limited to: Defensive tactics, Motivational Interviewing, Verbal Judo, handcuff control techniques, Correctional Law, Key and lock control, OC Spray, First Aid and CPR, and DOC Policies and proceduresKNOWLEDGE:

Knowledge of Department and Institution specific policies and procedures.

Knowledge of inmate behaviors and principles of offender management.

Knowledge of concepts and contemporary practices in group management and control in a correctional institution.

Knowledge of investigation and interrogation processes

Knowledge of work management; skill in leadership, planning, staff development, and staff utilization.

Knowledge and ability to identify and respond to safety and security issues.

Knowledge of classroom presence and control

Skill in Training, oral and written communications

Skill in listening, interpersonal relations and observation

Skill in research

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Education:Bachelor's Degree (typically in Criminal Justice)Experience:0-3 years of progressive work experience in Correctional Security with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional SergeantCertificates, Licenses, Registrations:Correctional Officer Certification awarded by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission. Applicants not holding Wyoming POST certification must be awarded certification within 6 months of employment.OREducation & Experience Substitution:4-6 years of progressive work experience in Correctional Security with acquired knowledge at the level of a Correctional SergeantCertificates, Licenses, Registrations:Correctional Officer Certification awarded by the Wyoming Peace Officers Standards & Training (POST) Commission. Applicants not holding Wyoming POST certification must be awarded certification within 6 months of employment.Necessary Special RequirementsPHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Standing on a regular basis, talking/hearing on a regular basis during course teaching.

This position may require teaching defensive tactic course which entails demonstrating techniques, requiring a full range of motion and physical stamina.

Visual ability to determine the accuracy, neatness and thoroughness of the work assigned.

Pushing/Pulling/Lifting/Grasping on a regular basis

Visual ability to perform an activity such as analyzing data and figures, viewing computer terminal, and extensive reading

May be exposed to mechanical or atmospheric hazards on a periodic basis

Non-traditional hours: early morning, night and weekend hours with year-round travel.

NOTES:

FLSA: Non-exempt

All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid on an hourly basis.

Candidates not already employed by The Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) must successfully pass a background/reference check, medical and psychological evaluation, physical fitness exam, urinalysis drug screen and other pre-employment testing prior to appointment.

Candidates not already employed by WDOC or Wyoming POST certified must complete all of the Correctional Officer position pre-employment requirements, in addition to the required pre-employment promotion testing.
