- Respond to medical emergencies involving injured and ill persons, ranging from minor medical to life threatening emergencies in an out of hospital/field setting.
- Provides both basic and advanced life support measures including but not limited to I.V. therapy, drug therapy, ACLS cardiac care and advanced airway management in an out of hospital/field setting.
- Assists and mentors other park staff (AEMTs, EMTs, First Responders) in providing emergency medical services in the park.
- Operates and maintains the districts ambulance and related equipment.
- Cooperates with all EMS providers, including clinic staff, to provide medical care.
- Assists in EMS training of park personnel at EMT refresher courses, EMS Endorsement, ambulance orientation, CPR and other EMS C.E. opportunities.
- Completes all required forms and reports and forwards them to their required destinations.
- Reviews park EMS run reports and assists with parkwide Q.A. program.
- Provides assistance and input to park EMS Coordinator on a variety of EMS issues.
- Performs other emergency and non-emergency assigned duties as needed; include but not limited to; SAR, Wildland and Structural Fire, Visitor Assistance and Resource Management.
- Provide emergency care in an out of hospital/field setting. Operate independently making patient care decisions in an out of hospital/field setting.
- Communicate with medical control to receive medical orders on patients. Operates Federal government vehicles.

- This position has a mixed work schedule based on the varying workload, and your work schedule is subject to change from part-time to full-time to on-call as workload dictates.

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: experience in transporting patients; providing medical care at the advanced EMS level; training and mentoring and participating in quality assurance programs. You must include hours per week worked.-OR-EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least two years of full-time graduate level education (36 semester hours) beyond a bachelor's degree or obtained a master's degree with major study in a field which is DIRECTLY RELATED to the work of a Health Technician (Paramedic). You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".Education

Physical Demands: Incumbent must maintain good physical condition and be able to pass any applicable standards outlined in Director's Order/Reference Manual-57 NPS Occupational Medical Standards, Health and Fitness. Work demands range from periods of office work (walking, standing, sitting and lifting) to strenuous periods of extended and extreme physical and mental activity. EMS and search and rescue involve walking long distances over rough terrain, carrying heavy loads, and using technical rescue equipment. Going without sleep for long periods of time is a common occurrence. Incumbent must be able to fly in a helicopter or fixed wing aircraft without ill effects. The work involves extended periods of heavy moving and lifting of patients. Generally, the work requires recurring bending, lifting, stooping, stretching, and positioning of patients, frequently under adverse conditions or in confined surroundings. Working Conditions: Work is performed in an office setting, medical clinic, ambulance, classroom, in the field, on trails, and in remote backcountry settings. On a regular and recurring basis employee is required to work in all types of weather conditions. EMS work involves frequent exposure to hazardous environments, hazardous flight landings and takeoffs, extremes in temperature, and exposure to communicable diseases.
