GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Start your career in State Government! This position will oversee two employees in the Lovell office. There is an AWEC administrative assistant and one staff nurse in that office.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Provides mandatory services to the residents of Big Horn County by providing direct care and overseeing the daily operations of the 1 nurse/support staff in the Lovell office.

  • Assures coverage of services and quality control for office.

  • Participates in recruitment, interviewing and training new staff to public health programs.

  • Monitors and coaches staff on performance, setting goals and conducts regular performance appraisals.

  • Conducts program evaluation to assure staff is working toward goals and agency mission.

  • Assists in maintaining a competent nursing staff through training.

  • Receives and gives input to nurse manager on expenditures, equipment and materials needed to improve effectiveness of the nursing services in the annual grant/general fund budget preparation.

  • Supervises clinical care delivered by staff, including the nursing assessment, nursing diagnosis, case management, evaluation and referral of clients.

  • Works with county manager, public health response coordinator and agency staff in the planning, training and implementation of all-hazard plans, including event-driven exercises and post-event case follow-up.

  • 24/7 emergency preparedness on-call coverage, coordination and assists with the essential day-to-day operations in any given situation.

  • Acts as a resource to nurses in MCH, adult and immunization programs.

  • Represents agency on local and state boards and work groups.

  • Provides infectious disease surveillance and follow-up, including food and water borne illnesses, and TB.

  • Teaching and counseling of clients and families; delivery of services to patients in MCH, adult health, communicable disease and the immunization program.

  • Plans and conducts nursing clinics and classes.

Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of principles of nursing and management processes.

  • Knowledge of the medical diagnosis and treatment of patient care using nursing diagnosis.

  • Knowledge of organization, planning and team building.

  • Knowledge of principles and practices of public health nursing.

  • Knowledge of human service management to include supervisory techniques, methods and standards.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Bachelor's Degree (typically in Nursing)

Experience:

1-2 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Nurse

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

OR

Education & Experience Substitution:

4-6 years of progressive work experience (typically in Nursing) with acquired knowledge at the level of a Nurse

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

Must be licensed or eligible for licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

Must be able to:

  • Lift/transfer patients to different positions.

  • Lift medical/patient equipment of varying sizes and weights up to about 50 lbs.

  • Restrain clients for treatments, climb stairs to patient homes, drive long distances.

  • Travel throughout the state and to national conferences if requested.

  • Work evenings, nights and /or weekends when the situation requires it.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Exempt.

  • A background check, including fingerprinting, will be completed through the Wyoming Division of Criminal Investigation, the Wyoming Department of Family Services and the F.B.I. for every successful applicant.

  • Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing will be conducted on safety-sensitive positions. Drug testing will be completed on any position if reasonable suspicion exists.
