At Ignite Mental Health we're accelerating world-class mental health entrepreneurs and mobilizing students at scale to catalyze the startup innovations and legislative changes needed to transform the future of student mental health literacy and access. Using this approach, we're working to make the impossible inevitable; helping build and scale breakthrough organizations to be as impactful as Google and Facebook that focus solely on equipping every student with a standard measure of mental health literacy and access.

Become a member of a mission-driven founding team that grew rapidly from the Harvard and MIT communities, with the support of the Harvard Innovation Labs Venture Incubation Program, to become a nationwide effort in just nine months! As the Director of People you will have the opportunity to recruit a world-class team and create and manage overarching strategy, internal programs and communications that drive and sustain our amazing culture and enables our team to thrive. We are looking for a passionate, creative, and intellectually curious leader who is eager to deliver programs which foster an environment where everyone can be their best self, accelerates innovation and is just generally a really fun place to be.

Together, we bring the Ignite Culture to life—enriching the team experience through programs that involve, inform, and engage our national team of 5-25 core members & from Fall 2020 1000+ Campus Changemakers. To succeed in this role, you will need to be able to combine creativity and ingenuity with strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines.

  • Assemble & empower a world-class team:

  • Recruitment & onboarding: Managing our existing full-cycle recruitment, selection, and onboarding to ensure Ignite Mental Health continues to attract and hire top talent while providing an exceptional candidate experience. Experience is not required in this functional area.

  • High performance teams: Empowering our team to thrive and enjoy their experience with Ignite.

  • Training and development: Designing training, mentorship, and development processes to allow all team members to grow in their roles and careers.

  • Policies and compliance: Developing and administering HR policies and programs to ensure Ignite Mental Health not only complies with employment legislation, but supports the evolving needs of both our team, and the business as a whole.

  • Employee relations: Providing proactive, specialized advice and consultation regarding team relations, helping leaders to build and maintain a happy, engaged and thriving team.

  • Continually identifying and implementing opportunities to improve team experience, wellbeing, and happiness.

  • Executing on our current People & Culture initiatives (weekly and daily activities).

  • Planning and lead all team cultural activities and socials such as quarterly meetings.

  • Soliciting team feedback through brainstorming meetings, regular one-on-one meetings and surveys to inform and evolve our People & Culture strategy.

  • Working with our advisors to develop Ignite's Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DE&I) strategy, leading the execution of related company-wide programs and initiatives. Promote the advancement of DE&I in all people and culture programs and processes ensuring team members have a comfortable place to work and learn, in line with Our Respectful Workplace.

The must haves

  • 6+ years in HR/People & Culture.
  • Post-secondary degree, preferably with a focus in Human Resources, industrial psychology etc.

  • Experience in the functional areas of HR including performance management, learning and development, HR policy and procedure development.

  • Extremely resourceful and open to exploring new ideas with a strong learning-based and growth mindset mentality.

  • Passionate about helping others with a humble can-do attitude.

  • Highly organized self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced startup environment.

  • Humble leadership style, willing to take charge and committed to diversity, inclusion and equity.

Time

  • Successful fulfillment of these duties may require volunteering 10 – 20 hours per week. We appreciate that some candidates may not have availability during the traditional hours of 9am – 5pm EST. Should we find two exceptionally talented candidates, we may be open to appointing two Co-Directors of People with split responsibilities and time allocation. Our Director of People will likely be serving a national and fast growing team of 5 – 25 people with the potential of 100 remote contributors and 1000 volunteers.

Location

  • Our Director of People would be welcome to work remotely from anywhere in the world or in-person with our Founder and selected team members in Boston.

Ignite Mental Health is not a department of Harvard University, nor are we in anyway owned or operated by the University. Ignite is a nonprofit startup founded by Harvard students which is incubated by and works out of the Harvard Innovation Labs VIP program on the Harvard Business School Campus.

NB: This position is at a non-profit startup and is non-compensated. For candidates who might be enrolled in a University, we gladly invest best efforts in assisting you in any way we can to secure educational internships (for credit), financial stipends, financial fellowships or financial scholarships to cover your living and other costs while with us.
