GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

Wyoming Statutes guarantee children the right to be represented in a court of law by a GAL when they are the subject of child abuse and neglect. Children are also entitled to a GAL when they are charged with committing a crime, a child in need of supervision if they do not have a parent or guardian that can advocate for them. Children have a voice and an advocate in court through GAL legal representation in court.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Initial meeting with clients. Must attend every hearing and advocate for the child.

  • Attend MDT, educational, meetings for child.

  • Interview clients, parents, school educators, foster parents, grandparents or other people involved in the case.

  • Prepare responsive pleadings for court; perform administrative tasks in office such as reading reports, filing, letter writing, answering telephone and data entry.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference will be given to those applicants who have experience and training on representation and interview skills for developmental levels of children.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Wyoming Criminal Law

  • United State Constitution

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

Juris Doctorate

Experience:

2-5 years of relevant legal experience

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:

License to practice law in Wyoming

Necessary Special Requirements
