GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

The Wyoming Department of Transportation is seeking three Temporary Construction Crew Specialists in Gillette, Wyoming to perform basic construction tasks under supervision in order to provide a safe, high quality, and efficient transportation system.

Gillette is located on the rolling hills midway between Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone National Park. And is one hour from Devil's Tower National Monument. The Powder River Basin produces over 1/3 of our nation's coal. You'll have easy access to: hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, snowmobiling, hiking, golf, and other outdoor activities in the Black Hills or Big Horn Mountains. Gillette College hosts many community events year round. Wyoming is one of seven states with no income tax.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed in the job level.

  • Construction tasks to include performing basic lab tests and survey procedures.

  • Perform construction inspections.

  • Prepare and check computations and data.

Qualifications

PREFERENCES:

Preference may be given to individuals who can perform algebraic calculations.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Knowledge of materials testing.

  • Knowledge of surveying methods and equipment operations.

  • Knowledge of construction inspection which includes interpretation of plans and specification.

  • Skill in use of computers.

  • Strong math skills required.

  • Ability to perform algebraic calculations.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Necessary Special Requirements

PHYSICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Daily use of motor vehicles.

  • Work around large construction machinery.

  • Ability to sit/stand for long periods of time.

  • Ability to lift and/or carry 50 pounds independently.

  • Work outdoors for extended periods of time in adverse environmental conditions.

  • Must be willing to work long hours and up to 6 days per week.

  • Daily and overnight travel is required.

NOTES:

  • FLSA: Non-Exempt

  • All new hires or rehires starting in a non-exempt position on or after January 1, 2018 are required to be paid hourly.

  • This a temporary, full-time position that will not exceed 9 months of consecutive employment.
