The Wyoming Tribune Eagle is seeking a skilled Features/Entertainment Writer to join our award-winning team.

The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in covering Cheyenne, southeast Wyoming and the Colorado Front Range region’s arts and entertainment scene, from local theater events to concerts to book signings and much, much more. The successful candidate also should be interested in telling longer feature stories for the newspaper’s Journey section, which runs every Sunday. These can include everything from interesting personal stories to larger-scale, topical projects.

The person in this position will be responsible for producing content for the four-page ToDo section, which runs Friday, Saturday and Sunday, as well as working with freelance writers and staff photographers on extra content for the Journey section. This person also coordinates and produces the weekend calendars, which are a major part of the ToDo section.

Located in the state capital of Cheyenne, the Wyoming Tribune Eagle provides daily news coverage in print and online of the southeast corner of the state while also covering the Wyoming State Legislature and the University of Wyoming. Cheyenne residents enjoy easy access to Denver and the Front Range area, as well as many outdoor recreation opportunities.

Requirements

Essential skills and requirements:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in journalism.

Experience with community journalism.

Comfortable writing quickly and consistently in AP style.

Strong eye for details.

Desired skills and experience:

Experience covering arts and entertainment.

Writing enterprising, engaging stories, both in short- and long-form formats.

Experience covering news on social media platforms.

Ability to work with the public, both in interviews and customer service interactions.

There are three company-sponsored benefits, including short-term disability, long-term disability and a term life insurance policy. The company pays for these six major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s, Memorial Day, Independence Day and Labor Day). In addition, employees accrue 3.33 hours of paid leave per pay period in the first year of employment (80 hours) and increasing to 5.0 hours per pay period (120 hours) after their one-year anniversary of employment. The company has the option of making a discretionary match to the 401K retirement plan after year’s end.
