Director of Diversity and Inclusion

The Director of Diversity and Inclusion will play a crucial role in advancing this mission and fostering a culture of inclusive excellence as the university's first Director of DI. The individual will establish a visible presence on campus, actively engaging students, faculty, staff alumni, and community members in the process of building a more diverse and inclusive community. This person will help move the university forward by working closely with the university leadership team, students, staff, faculty, administration, organizations and external constituencies, as well as moderating and facilitating the University-wide Diversity Committee and University town halls and feedback sessions. The Director of DI will collaborate with retention efforts to track recruitment, retention, and graduation of students as it relates to diversity, and will advise these departments on initiatives to improve these rates.

Duties & Responsibilities

Develop a vision and strategy to support strategic objectives of the University. Act as subject matter expert. Lead projects and events, facilitate and teach/train on a variety of DI topics across the organization enabling employees and students to reach their full potential.

Essential Functions include:

  • Coordinate campus awareness events. Serve as consultant to faculty, staff and administrators on a broad range of strategies, opportunities and initiatives that will further diversity.

  • Provide leadership in developing and implementing strategic diversity and inclusion initiatives to engage campus community.

  • Form, develop and chair diversity committee to create and guide DI initiatives to include students, faculty, staff, alumni, and external community partners.

  • Collaborate and communicate with key university partners, including but not limited to: HR, Academic Affairs, Student Services, Campus Ministry, Title IX Coordinator, Public Safety and other departments as needed and requested.

  • Be a resource for students expressing concerns about campus climate and working for positive change.

  • Monitor and evaluate progress in creating a more diverse and inclusive environment.

  • Manage DI budget, including sponsoring DI programming, and co-sponsoring opportunities with on and off campus partners.

  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Work Experience include:

  • A Bachelor's degree is required but a Master's degree in a related field is preferred.

  • 3+ years of progressive responsibility in diversity and inclusion.
