Position Summary
Accountable for conversion of diagnoses and treatment procedures into codes using an international classification of diseases. Requires skill in the sequencing of diagnoses/procedures to optimize reimbursement. Must determine the appropriate sequencing and coding for accurate MSDRG/APC assignment. Must be able to determine present on admission diagnoses. This job has a direct impact on accounts receivable from discharge to billing.
Qualifications
Required:
Knowledge & Experience
Certified Coding Specialist or Registered Health
Information Technician, or currently enrolled in an approved Training Program.
Knowledge and completion of course in Anatomy and physiology
Medical record terminology or experience in the medical record field
Working technical knowledge of coding software, PC
Must be familiar with all medical record and coding requirements
Strong knowledge of Coding Clinic and Federal
Regulations for assigning appropriate MS-DRGs
Maintains a good working relationship within the department, other departments and medical staff

Highly self-motivated and disciplined
Keen attention to detail
Strong interpersonal and oral communication skills
Working technical knowledge of coding software, PC
Must be familiar with all medical record and coding requirements
Strong knowledge of Coding Clinic and Federal Regulations for assigning proper codes
Hospital and or physician office coding experience
Maintains a good working relationship within the department, other departments and medical staff
