What You Will Do: As a Linux Systems Administrator III, you will perform daily duties of backups, maintenance on applications and OS, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting. Provide technical solutions to a wide range of problems and user requests through an established trouble ticketing system.
  • Provide Linux operating system administration to include central authentication and authorization services. Central logging solutions, OS building/configuring, and script writing to name a few.
  • Develop and maintain custom tools in Puppet, Python, Perl, Ruby, and Bash to automate the UNIX infrastructure, creating manifests/playbooks.
  • Provide onsite architectural and design support, development, and administration of the Research and SciLAN landscape.
  • Provide for critical incident response and problem management including root cause of system problems, such as configuration issues resulting in operational performance degradation or system outages,supporting the Government with information and advice on the necessary correction actions and/or interim workarounds.
  • Apply firmware patches and routine maintenance updates. (OS patching) in accordance with our vulnerability's remediation process, during scheduled preventative maintenance.
  • Knowledge of virtualization platforms, such as VMware vSphere, Red Hat Virtualization, Openstack, Docker Containers, etc.
  • Experience with the following technologies: High Performance Computing processing and storage environments, data center management, system configuration management, engineering drawings, system configuration management tools, shell scripting, and service requests systems.
  • Create/update/execute required documentation, e.g., scripts, reports, pans, etc. Responsible for monitoring software upgrade requirements and ensuring compliance and compatibility with
  • existing configurations. Including workbooks and SOPs (standard operating procedures).
  • Provide an exceptional level of customer service while working in a fast paced, dynamic complex environment.
  • Experience with High Performance Computing Systems.
  • Experience with High Performance Storage Systems.
  • Experience with parallel file systems.
  • Work under little supervision on day-to-day basis.
  • Participate in special projects as required.

Required Skills:
  • 4+ years of relevant hands on work experience in Linux Systems Administration.
  • Red Hat, CentOS or equivalent Linux Administration
  • Possess knowledge of tracking and analyzing performance and resource utilization of the assigned systems, and shall have experience in recommending changes, upgrades, and enhancements based on the technical analysis.
  • Perform daily operational duties of backups, maintenance on applications and OS, patching, tuning, and troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrated significant experience in Linux Systems Administration (5+ years)
  • Comfortable with the Linux or UNIX CLI and Highly versed in
  • Linux administration and best practices.
  • Fluent in programming/scripting skills for automation in at least two of Bash, Ruby, Python, and Perl.
  • General understanding of Linux internals. (system calls, file systems, processes, etc.)
  • General understanding of TCP/IP and related protocols. (HTTP, FTP, NFS, etc.)
  • Experience with building open-source software from source code.
  • Experience with version control. (Git is preferred.)
  • Experience supporting large web applications environment.
  • Familiarity with enterprise network architectures.
  • Familiarity with large, complex Linux environments.
  • Knowledge of cloud technology such as AWS and Google Cloud Platform.
  • Flexible working hours - able to support occasional nights, weekends, and call-ins.
  • Able to quickly adapt to a constantly changing environment.
  • Good communication and client handling abilities.
  • Be resourceful, innovation and provide solutions to complex problems.
  • Experience with ITIL processes, implementation, and adherence is preferred.
  • Familiar with the systems development life cycle, including requirements definition, solution design, development, unit testing, user-acceptance testing, validation and production support.
  • Superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Flexibility to adapt to deadlines, changing schedules, priorities, and unpredictable events as they arise.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with experience in diagnosing complex technical issues.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards, strong organizational skills; able to manage priorities and workflow.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a member of a support team.
