Job Summary: This position plays a vital role in ensuring quality and timely deployment of our services to customers.

Location: This position can be based anywhere in the greater Yakima area.

Travel: This position will require frequent travel throughout central Washington state, with some travel required to Seattle and Spokane, Washington.

Job Duties:

Responsible for the correct, safe, and efficient locating and marking of underground utilities by carefully searching for the underground plant in an area, properly marking the location, and completing the necessary paperwork.

Perform power connections to telecommunications equipment to top of rack power.

Perform installation and installation commissioning, troubleshooting, and handling optical transmission systems.

Perform OTDR, Ethernet, BER and SONET acceptance testing.

Provide support for all contractor splicing activities. This support includes continuity testing, OTDR trace analysis and optical power meter data of fiber optic cable.

Responsible for installation and testing of fiber optic patch cords.

Monitor contractor, vendor, and customer co-location installations, equipment placement and testing.

Proactively seek and identify potential network problems and address these issues before becoming service affecting events. This includes action to resolve issues identified during routine preventative maintenance inspections conducted during defined timelines.

Participate in local on-call schedule rotation.

Perform site surveys, identify build pathways and provide solutions for deployment.

Communicate the needs of inside plant & outside plant builds to relevant department.

Create build history document and upload to the internal Wiki.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

Minimum of 3 years’ experience installing, testing or turning up a variety of telecommunications equipment including SONET, TDM, DWDM, IP, and ethernet.

Strong technical, mechanical and electrical background and be familiar and proficient around all major manufacturers of transport equipment, high voltage electrical systems, DC power plant as well as knowledge of critical infrastructure, ISP/OSP and all associated test systems to include optical, electrical and power testing equipment associated with the telecommunications Industry.

Ability to read and interpret documents such as OSHA/Company safety rules, MSDS, MOP’s, process and procedure documents as well as vendor documentation related to equipment owned by the company.

Ability to write routine reports, properly fill out documentation such as site surveys and audit reports as well as effectively communicate with customers, management, peers and contractors as well as other members of the organization.

Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations as well as possessing deductive reasoning skills utilized to improve customer experience and network performance.

Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends, as well as on call rotation.

Knowledge of telecommunications design, installation practices and principals.

Ability to operate various office equipment such as personal computer, various software programs including Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Outlook, Visio), and telephone systems.

Highly skilled in problem identification and resolution.

Strong oral and written communication skills are required.

Ability to provide excellent customer service.

Proficient in reading and interpreting technical documents such as vendor deployment guidelines, white papers and configuration manuals.

Ability to communicate and interact effectively with customers, team members and other stakeholders in a professional and courteous manner.

Ambitious and goal oriented, with initiative to work until job is complete.

Strong attention to detail is required.

Ability to work independently and make sound decisions using information at hand.

Ability to work in a team environment.

Ability to drive on behalf of the company in a safe and responsible manner.

Valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

Physical Requirements

Ability to travel to project sites and areas in all weather conditions.

Ability to perform job from high places (i.e. towers and roofs).

Ability to be exposed to dust, dirt, noise, insects and cleaning solutions.

Ability to work in poorly ventilated during extreme heat.

Vision abilities include; close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perceptions and the ability to adjust focus.

Ability to work while standing 50 - 70% of the time.
