Position Summary:

The Roving Quality Assurance Manager will assist in the administration of Icicle Seafoods Inc.s Quality Assurance Program. This position will rotate between Alaska vessel and land-based processing locations; processing a variety of seafood species and product forms. This role plans, coordinates, and directs the quality assurance program with established Icicle Seafoods standards. Responsibilities include assuring product quality and plant sanitation standards are consistently met throughout the processing facility, maintaining complete and accurate QA records, training production staff to ensure that quality and hygiene standards are being met, preparing for conformance to third-party audit standards (BRC Food Safety Certification being one example), which will include advanced preparation and training for annual 3rd Party Audits, and any additional QA visits or audits.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Monitor plant sanitation and HACCP records in accordance with ADEC, FDA, USDC regulations and any 3rd Party or customer audits.

Supervise, monitor, and direct QA techs in observing/measuring/recording metrics associated with the production process, including finished product quality and plant sanitation.

Ensure product conformance to Internal Product Specifications and Customer Specifications.

Review and prepare policies and procedures, monitoring records, training records, and all other disciplines contained within BRC Standard.

Ensure full implementation and maintenance of HACCP and Sanitation Programs, including training of QA Staff in areas pertinent to CCP monitoring and compliance with GMPs.

Maintain complete and accurate QA records, including all records associated with freezer temperatures, product core temperatures, product handling, grading, glazing, sizing, and case-up.

Complete and submit product variance reports.

Prepare for, and effect compliance with facility inspections conducted by ADEC, FDA, and USDC.

Establish and conduct employee training to ensure plant sanitation and employee hygiene standards are effectively communicated to all production staff.

Maintain inventory of chemical and QA supplies and submit purchasing requests annually.

Manage, train, and guide a staff of 10 or more.

Other duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities During Off-Season: (depending upon assignment, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following):

Annual HACCP Plan(s) Revisions/Review.

Consumer Complaint Handling to Corporate QA or sales staff.

Review seasonal production data from QA activities to ensure consistency with company objectives

Preparation of technical QA Key Performance Indicators (KPI) based on prior season for presentation and review by management team.

Other duties as assigned.

Skills and Experience:

Prior experience with implementation of BRC &/or SQF Audit Standard required.

HACCP and Better Process Control School Certifications/ability to obtain prior to the season and proficiency in developing/maintaining HACCP plan(s) required.

Proficiency in math, organization, record keeping, and interpersonal communication required.

Min. 2 years QA experience in Salmon, Pollock, Cod, and Herring processing preferred.

Familiarity with seafood processing state and federal food codes required.

Bachelors or AA Degree in food science or related field preferred.

Previous experience with food canning operations is preferred.

Prior management experience preferred.

Must be able to work up to 16 hours per day, 7 days per week in stressful and demanding work environment.

Must be able to exercise good judgment when problems arise and communicate openly with plant manager and production manager.

Must be a hands-on individual in all aspects of the processing environment.

Must be able to live and work in remote Alaska.

Work Schedule and Conditions:

This position is seasonal and will travel throughout Icicles remote processing land-based locations and vessel as needed.

The work schedule requires working up to 16-hours days, 7 days per week.

The work environment may be cold, wet, and noisy, and requires working repetitively with hands, wrists and elbows while standing.

Salary:

Competitive; depends on experience.
