Full-time Assistant Fine Gardening Position, Private Farm, Albemarle County, Virginia
Hiring a full-time assistant fine gardener on a private farm in Albemarle county. Looking for a dedicated fine gardener with a genuine love of plants, working outdoors and the promotion of sustainable practices. Under the direction of the head gardener, the fine gardener will assist with all aspects of landscape care such as weeding, watering, pruning, fertilizing, planting, pest and disease identification, mulching, integrated pest management practices and other basic horticulture tasks.
Job Skills:
understanding of common landscape plant materials including: annuals, perennials, trees, and shrubs
basic pruning knowledge of ornamental shrubs and perennials
knowledge of correct planting practices for shrubs and perennials
ability to load and unload trucks and lift 50 lbs.
basic knowledge of power tools such as hedge trimmers, tillers and leaf blowers
desire to learn to safely operate general farm equipment such as a skid steer and farm tractor
ability to assist in a variety of non-gardening activities during the winter months
Requirements:
1-3 years of experience in the green industry preferred but willing to train the right candidate with a strong work ethic and desire for ongoing learning
motivated career-oriented individual with the ability to work well with others in a team environment as well as independently
Competitive hourly rate with two weeks paid vacation
