We are currently seeking a Construction Safety Specialist, Heavy Civil Construction in the Charlottesville, VA area.

The Construction Safety Specialist will be responsible for the promotion of a positive safety culture, visiting project sites for purposes of safety inspections, training, and maintaining active knowledge of field operations.
Essential Functions

Monitor compliance with the safety program
Implement and enhance the safety programs that promote a safe working culture
Conduct jobsite inspections and audits, identify and report findings, and recommend corrective action
Facilitate or assist with safety training and orientations, as well as First AID/CPR training
Obtain and maintain necessary safety and health certifications, including First Aid/CPR, and 10 and 30-hour OSHA Construction Trainer
Conduct or assist safety meetings
Assist with the development of site-specific safety procedures
Participate in root cause analysis
Assist in the review of federal, state and local inspection activity and proposed citations
Provides advice and distribution of personal protective equipment
Supervisory Responsibility
No direct reports. Report to management on safety compliance of every supervisor to be used for employee evaluations for salary and bonuses.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time position; typical work hours and days are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. with one hour for lunch.
Travel
Able and willing to travel as required for the role.
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent
5+ years progressive Safety Management experience in heavy civil construction environment
Certified safety professional or other similar professional designation preferred. CHST, CSP, CHSO
Must have knowledge and understanding of Construction Safety Orders, MUTCD standards, fail protection, OSHA, MSHA, and other state and federal agency guidelines
Ability to work independently in a vibrant environment
HCSS safety software experience a plus
Experience in implementing safety principles in an operational environment
First Aid/CPR/AED certifications required
