ABOUT THE ORGANIZATION

The mission of Catamount Outdoor Family Center (COFC) is to create outdoor experiences at the Catamount Community Forest that build active lifestyles, friendships, and environmental awareness.

http://catamountoutdoorfamilycenter.org

In March 2019, with help from the Trust for Public Land and many others, the Town of Williston, Vermont acquired 393 acres to be permanently protected as the Catamount Community Forest. The land will forever be open to the public and off limits to development, protected by a conservation easement co-held by Vermont Land Trust and Vermont Housing & Conservation Board. Our non-profit organization, Catamount Outdoor Family Center, continues to oversee the management of the trail system, camps and programming that fulfill the vision of Jim and Lucy McCullough who worked to ensure the historic and unique property would be available for outdoor recreation for generations.

Located in the heart of Chittenden County, Vermont’s most populated area, Catamount Outdoor Family Center began as a cross country ski center in 1978 as a way to utilize and repurpose the unique 393 acre former McCullough dairy farm and historic Thomas Chittenden residence. Since that time Catamount has grown to include summer activities such as mountain biking, hiking, trail running and the winter season activities of XC skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking and sledding. Catamount also produces numerous events, weekly mountain bike and trail running races, and an extensive summer camp program that currently serves over 400 campers each summer. The trail network has grown and now includes a diverse variety of trails covering about 26 miles in total. Since 2005, Catamount has been operating as a 501(c)3 non-profit, and strives to offer opportunities for all ages and abilities.

Catamount relies on a variety of funding sources to further its mission, including user fees and memberships, fundraisers, grants, and tax deductible contributions.
