SummaryThe VA Salt Lake City Healthcare Center is currently seeking a few highly energetic and motivated individuals to join our team as Food Service Workers in Nutrition and Food Services.ResponsibilitiesThis position completes daily duties to assure that patients receive quality, nutritious meals in a timely manner. This position will perform several of the below tasks on any shift devoting attention to accuracy and timing to accomplish tasks on schedule.Duties of the position include and are not limited to:Works at Positions on Tray Line: Loads trays on food delivery carts in proper sequence to facilitate timely delivery of trays. Sets up and replenishes assigned station on tray line following standard procedures. Works stations on tray line which require placement of one or more uniform portions of food or standard items on patient trays and where simple judgment is needed Reads tray tickets to determine which items to place on trays in order to provide patient with correct food items. Breaks down and cleans assigned area on tray line and returns food to designated area in kitchen within allotted time. Returns soiled trays and dishes to dish room and pot and pan machine following standard procedure. Works in Cafeteria: Sets up and replenishes cafeteria line, steam table, refrigerated and beverage units with hot and cold food items including meats, vegetables, salads, desserts, bread, butter and beverages to facilitate timely and accurate food service to patients and customers. Courteously serves food cafeteria-style and places uniform portion of food on customers' plates. Distributes sack lunches and nourishments to qualified individuals who eat in cafeteria. Informs cook or supervisor when menu item quantities are low and the risk of running out may occur. Breaks down and cleans assigned work area when meal is finished and returns food to the kitchen to ensure proper food safety principles. Returns soiled trays and dishes to dish room and pot and pan machine after meals for timely sanitation. Cleans and sets up dining room tables for service, replenishing items as necessary (ex: salt, pepper, napkins, etc) within allotted time frame. Delivers and retrieves meal trays: Delivers meal trays to patient's bedside. Uses appropriate manners such as "knock on door" and introduce self. Uses proper patient identification method to ensure tray is delivered to correct patient following standard procedure. Follows department procedures for delivering trays/nourishments to patients with isolation precautions. Retrieves empty meal trays from patient's bedside and medical ward. Communicates in a manner that meets the patient's physical abilities such as: sight and hearing needs. Safely transports trays on food carts to and from wards and clinics using electric cart, following established schedule. Delivers Nourishments: Delivers individual nourishments to patient's bedside. Uses appropriate manners such as "knock on door" and introduce self. Uses proper patient identification method to ensure nourishment is delivered to correct patient following standard procedure. Follows department procedures for delivering trays/nourishments to patients with isolation precautions. Delivers bulk nourishments to ward refrigerators/storage areas, leaving amounts specified on delivery sheet. Safely transports nourishments on food carts to and from wards and clinics using electric cart, following established schedule. Apportions food and utensils: Apportions food items for tray line and cafeteria (eg. desserts, fruits, etc.) into standard serving sizes using the proper utensils and containers. Prepares condiments and utensils for distribution on tray line following standard procedures. Works in dish room/on pot and pan machine: Sets up and operates mechanical dishwasher and pot & pan machine safely using the correct procedure. Opens inspection doors, removes strainer pans, screens, and sprays arms for preventive maintenance and cleaning. Separates and disposes of food waste and trash from trays. Scrapes, soaks, scours and scrubs items which require additional handling for cleaning such as baked on egg products, pots and pans, etc. Sorts, racks and places dishes, silverware and utensils and pots & pans in mechanical dishwasher. Sorts and stores clean trays, dishes, silverware, cooking utensils, etc. Perform Cleaning Tasks: Performs routine cleaning of assigned working areas and utility carts. Performs heavy duty cleaning tasks throughout the food service and related areas, such as cleaning equipment, sweeping and mopping areas not cleaned by EMS, including spaces under and behind kitchen equipment. Removes trash to outside dumpsters, sanitizes trash cans and keep areas around dumpsters clean. Work Schedule: Varies. To be discussed during the interview. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
