Job Summary:

Reporting to the Foreman or designate, the Operator performs a variety of tasks related to the operation of heavy construction and maintenance of way equipment in the construction and maintenance of track.

Job Responsibilities:

Operates heavy construction equipment to move, load or unload materials.

Equipment Operated as follows:

o Speed swing operator

o Spike Puller operator

o Cribber Adzer operator

o Spiker Gauger operator

o Anchor applicator operator

o Spiker operator

o Rail Heater operator

Operates equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies and procedures.

Installs equipment or attachments on machinery or related structures.

Performs equipment safety, maintenance checks and routine repairs.

Repairs and maintains equipment, making emergency adjustments as necessary.

Signals directions or warnings to coworkers.

Coordinates machine actions with other activities, positioning or moving loads in response to hand or audio signals from crew members.

Locates underground services, such as pipes and wires prior to beginning work.

Takes actions to avoid potential hazards and obstructions, such as utility lines other equipment, other workers, and falling objects.

Keeps records of material and equipment usage and problems encountered.

Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications:

Minimum one year experience operating heavy equipment in a construction environment.

Ability to understand and follow instructions; read and interpret document such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, construction specifications, and procedure manuals.

Knowledge of and ability to adhere to safety requirements and procedures.

Ability to pass pre-employment background checks including drug screening and physical

Physical Requirements:

Works outdoors at construction sites

Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending and handling of materials, equipment and tools.

Use hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble objects and tools.

Exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.

Exposed to loud noise and live track/trains

Must wear appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, safety vests and hearing protection, as required by the company.

Travel may be required.
