Job Description
The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee Coordinator shall perform the following tasks atthe Joint Base San Antonio-Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, TX:
- Providingadministrative support to the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) and other duties as assigned.
- SchedulingIACUC meetings; recording and preparing meeting minutes, ensuring a quorum, and preparing meeting agendas.
- Organizing and schedulinginspections; maintaining the tracker for correction of the deficiencies and providinga report to the Attending Veterinarian (AV) as well as the Branch Chief.
- Coordinatingannual reviews with the perspective Principal Investigators (PI); aidingwith the Program Description for the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care(AAALAC) international site visit;editing andsubmitting the annual reviews to AAALAC international and USDA, etc.
- Researching regulations, compliance and guidelines with the Animal Care and Use Program (ACUP); working with the IACUC chair, Branch Chief, and AV to compile data for regulatory reporting requirements as required.
- Providingmember training, maintaining the schedule and requirements; tracking expiration dates as well as due dates for refresher training, and providingreports.
- Maintaining databases to track protocols, animal numbers, and providing reports to the AV and the Branch Chief.
- Reviewing, editing, and creatingACUP research policies, creatingand revisingresearch forms; providing regulatory guidance to research staff with guidance from the AV and Branch Chief.
- Staying knowledgeablein all Privacy Act and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) policies/laws and training; maintainingthe American Association of Laboratory Animal Science (AALAS) training library to include the occupational health tracker to ensure compliance and providing reports.
- Maintaining records and electronic databases of animal research protocols and their progress
- Reviewing animal research protocols and related documents to ensure they are formatted in accordance with IACUC policies and DoD Directive; preparing correspondence for researcher investigators requiring external approval.
- Assisting in the management, storage, and organization of information on the SharePoint and Shared Drive sites.
- Providingquality assurance to the administrative area of the animal care program.
- Implementing research guidelines and policies for the animal care activities.
Qualifications
- Degree in an academic field related to health sciences or in animal health/sciences; at the discretion of the Government, degree may be substituted by experience, certifications, or other training on a case by case basis
- At least three (3) years’ experience as an administrative assistant in animal research
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and SharePoint
- Customer service/support experience and excellent written/oral communication skills
- Certified Professional IACUC Administrator (CPIA)is preferred
