Designs control systems, develops processes and common procedures, conducts tests on raw materials, and trains less experienced engineers in the function.Primary Responsibilities: Conducts research to develop new and improved chemical manufacturing processes. Develops processes to separate components of liquids or gases or generate electrical currents using controlled chemical processes. Conducts or supervises tests on raw materials or finished products to ensure their quality. Designs and directs the testing or control of processing procedures, and designs processing plants and equipment to optimize the chemical and materials engineering processes. Determines appropriate methods for fabricating and joining materials to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design. Designs measurement and control systems for chemical plants based on data collected in laboratory experiments and in pilot plant operations to ensure quality targets and production specifications are met. Provides technical leadership and assists in training less experienced engineers, when required, to help them diagnose and solve problems and enhance their capabilities. Creates and implements common procedures and standard work across the organization to optimize efficiency and quality. Analyzes, researches, designs and develops materials and their related fabrication and application processes to develop and optimize materials for use in engineering design of and/or application in structures, systems and subsystems. Performs material analyses that include, but are not limited to, failure analysis of components, systems and subsystems, life predictions, and definition and requirement specifications. Applies principles of chemistry, physics, and material behavior to develop metallic, non-metallic and composite material and processing specifications, fabrication and assembly processes. May review and approve subcontractor material processing procedures.Basic Qualifications:This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline, Chemical, Structural, or Materials Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience.
