POSITION PURPOSEThe Home Depot is seeking a Staff Systems Engineer in IT Endpoint Protection. The Staff Systems

Engineer

develops, maintains, and supports The Home Depot’s technical infrastructure that includes network, hardware, database, and system software components for a broad range of End Point security related tools and technologies, including but not limited to EDR (Endpoint Detection & Response), Cloud Security & Container Security solutions. The Staff Systems Engineer, will be part of the Security Operations Center Systems team responsible for supporting the Cloud Security service, partnering with Design teams to continuously enhance and mature the service through strategic initiatives

. Staff Systems Engineers are expected to leverage tooling and custom applications to monitor, optimize performance and increase the effectiveness of security solutions. In addition, Staff Systems Engineers would be part of an On-Call rotation for supporting routine upgrades, application support as well as root cause and post-mortem analyses around security incidents and service interruptions. As a Staff Systems Engineer, you will be able to operate independently, though knowledge share as a mentor of junior team members to expand the team’s overall skillsets. Based on the Staff Engineers extensive experience they would be expected to provide process creation, leading initiatives and ensure best practices are followed for the service. This role typically reports to the Systems Engineer Manager or Senior Manager.

MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES20% – Strategy & Planning:Researches and analyzes business trends and behavioral data to identify opportunities for improvements and new initiativesLeads the evaluation, development, and recommendation of specific technology products and platforms to provide cost-effective solutions that meet business and technology requirementsResearches and designs best fit infrastructure, network, database, and security architectures for productsProactively creates and maintains tools for monitoring and supportParticipates in project planning and management across multiple effortsDevelops formal training courses30% – Delivery & Execution:Leads configuration, debugging, and support for infrastructureLeads field and corporate roll-outs of technologyLeads the stand up of necessary system software, hardware, and equipment (physical or virtual) to meet changing infrastructure needsCreates and optimizes specifications for technology solutionsProduces and manages purchase requests for hardware and software40% – Support & Enablement:Collaborates with product and project teams to understand needs and enable them with infrastructureSupports technology architecture design review efforts for project and product teamsLeverages tooling and custom applications to monitor the operational status of applications, infrastructure, networks, databases, and security; optimizes and tunes performance as appropriateDrives root cause analysis, debugging, support, and post-mortem analysis for security incidents and service interruptionsMaintains, upgrades, and supports existing systems and infrastructure to ensure operational stabilityActs as a vendor liaison, owning resourcing, issue management, and documentationLeads the production of in-house documentation around solutionsMonitors tools and proactively helps teams struggling with systems issuesProvides application support for software running in productionCreates scripts and tools that drive automation and enable product teams and end users to move towards self serviceActs as a mentor to more junior Systems Engineers10% – Learning:Keeps abreast of innovations and industry trends as well as changes to internal systems and determines how they impacts tools, training, and support necessary to keep systems up, running, and secureParticipates in and contributes to learning activities around modern systems engineering core practices (communities of practice)Proactively views articles, tutorials, and videos to learn about new technologies and best practices being used within other technology organizations

NATURE AND SCOPETypically reports to the Systems Engineer Manager or Sr. Manager.

Travel:Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMust be eighteen years of age or older.Must be legally permitted to work in the United States.Additional Minimum Qualifications:Must be legally permitted to work in the United StatesEducation Required:The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a bachelor’s degree program or equivalent degree in a field of study related to the job.Years of Relevant Work Experience: 3 years

Physical Requirements:Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles. Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.

Preferred Qualifications:

Professional experience as a Security Engineer or Infrastructure Engineer; familiarity with at least one other discipline, and interest in growing in the remaining disciplines

Hands-on and management experience specific in endpoint security best practice for Cloud and Containers by using tools such as, Twistlock, NeuVector, Capsule8, Aqua Security, etc.

Experience monitoring the operational/performance status of Windows and Linux endpoints including configurations and troubleshooting.

Experience with CICD(Continuous Integration/Continuous Delivery) systems like Jenkins and Spinnaker.

Experience with Git Distributed code management systems

Experience managing and monitoring Docker and Kubernetes containers in Azure Cloud and Google Cloud environments.

Experience monitoring the operational/performance status of networks communications to/from endpoints as well as troubleshooting.

Experience with operating system command-line utilities as well as PowerShell, VBScript, Shell Scripting and or Python.

Experience working as part of a collaborative, cross-functional, modern Security engineering team.

Experience on delivering a service and providing recommendations on Strategy and process design for continuous enhancement and deliverability.

Prior engineering experience in endpoint security solutions to include and not limited to (EDR) Endpoint Detection & Response, Container and Cloud Security, Vulnerability Management etc.

Hands-on and management experience specific endpoint security tools such as CrowdStrike, Palo Alto XDR and other like EDR services.

Experience with physical/virtual infrastructure, network, or security troubleshooting and remediation.

Experience installing and upgrading applications or databases and performing system maintenance.

Familiarity with system and environment analysis and design.

Familiarity with debuggers, runtime analysis, library systems, compiled programming, and software update tools.
