SummaryThis position is located at the Sisseton Indian Health Service in the Great Plains Area. The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive nursing services to individuals, families and communities within a designated geographical area.ResponsibilitiesProvides skilled nursing care to the individuals and families including measures designed to promote wellness, to prevent complications and to minimize disabilities. Develops a program to meet unique health needs such as found in schools, head start centers, senior citizens centers and other agencies as indicated. Participates, supports and promotes in the development and implementation of the Electronic Health Records System toward reaching goal of enhancing patient continuity of care, increasing patient safety, decreasing medical errors, and increasing required documentation. Plans and responsible for training programs for nursing students and tribal health workers, and other duties as assigned. BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (external link), Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (external link), Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (external link), or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (external link) at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools (external link) is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination (external link). In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. In addition, to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below- MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Minimum Qualifications, GS-07: In addition to the above Basic Requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and eligibility under the Superior Academic Achievement provision; Possession of a bachelor's degree in Nursing and at least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-5 grade level). Examples of experience include: Utilizes nursing process in order to assess, plan, implement and evaluate health needs in providing nursing care to individuals and families including interventions designed to prevent complications and minimize disabilities. Teach and supervise patients and families in techniques of positive health measures; Possession of a diploma or associate degree in professional nursing and two full years of professional nursing experience. Examples of experience include: Utilizes nursing process in order to assess, plan, implement and evaluate health needs in providing nursing care to individuals and families including interventions designed to prevent complications and minimize disabilities. Teach and supervise patients and families in techniques of positive health measures; Completion of at least one full year of graduate education in a professional nursing educational program. Minimum Qualifications, GS-09: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Possession of a master's degree in professional nursing; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-7 grade level or above) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program Examples of experience include: Delivering health and nursing care to individuals, families, schools within communities using initiative, judgement in covering a range of nursing service through counseling, teaching and follow-up within established plans, policies and objectives of the agency and evaluating the effectiveness of the program, appraise the quality of nursing services delivering which impacts the health of individuals, families and communities. Minimum Qualifications, GS-11: In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements: Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field; or At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program. Examples of experience include: Establish plan for care, provides a variety of nursing services, including administering treatments and medications; directing rehabilitative activities; and counseling and teaching in relation to the patient's condition. Track community health status, evaluate health trends and risk factors of population groups. Collect data in a systematic and organized manner, i.e. demographic, immunization, and analyzers the collected assessment data. Partners with community leaders to evaluate the data, and determine opportunities and needs for the future. Collaborates in the development and use of health policies and plans that support the individuals, families, and the community health efforts.
