SummaryThis position is located at the Sisseton Indian Health Service, Dental Clinic, Sisseton Service Unit, of the Great Plains Area Indian Health Service. The position is responsible for the comprehensive planning, implementation and evaluation of the preventive dental program at the Sisseton Service Unit with both community and clinical components.ResponsibilitiesExamines patients' teeth and surrounding tissues, records history, plans treatments and appointments in accordance with existing conditions. Performs oral prophylaxis and provides therapeutic care using a variety of scalers and ultrasonic equipment; includes performing deep scaling, root planning, and subgingival curettage, taking intraoral impressions for the preparation of study models, smoothing and polishing rough edges of restorations, placing temporary fillings, administering local anesthesia, placing and removing rubbers dams, applying sealants. Provides dental hygiene and therapeutic instruction to patients, both individually and in groups, in the home care phase of treatment, adapting instructions, oral hygiene aids and techniques such as use of interproximal brushes, bridge threaders, and disclosing agents. Takes, develops and interprets intraoral and extra oral radiographs. Maintains patient record of treatment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:GS-05: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examine and assess patients, refer patients with abnormalities to the dentist. Perform oral prophylactic care and provide oral health education services to patients. Expose and interpret oral X-Rays. GS-06: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examine and assess patients, determine if systemic conditions are present and plan treatments. Under direction and supervision perform oral prophylaxis and provide therapeutic care, perform deep scaling, root planning and subgingival curettage, place temporary fillings and administer local anesthesia, place and remove rubber dams and apply sealant. Provide oral health education services to individuals and groups. Take, develop and interpret intraoral and extraoral X-Rays. GS-07: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Examine and assess patients, determine if systemic conditions are present and plan treatments. Independently and without direct observation perform oral prophylaxis and provide therapeutic care, perform deep scaling, root planning and subgingival curettage, place temporary fillings and administer local anesthesia, place and remove rubbers dams and apply sealant. Provide oral health education services to individuals and groups. Take, develop and interpret intraoral and extraoral X-Rays. Design, implement, and evaluate major aspects of the preventive program. GS-08: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Plan and evaluate preventive health programs for patient groups. Develop and revise instructional material. Administer oral prophylactic and dental hygiene treatments. Under direct supervision administer local anesthesia. Record medical and dental histories, administer caries prevention agents, desensitize root surfaces, root planning sealant application, take and pour impressions for casts, removing sutures.
