DescriptionThe Utilization Management Nurse 2 utilizes clinical nursing skills to support the coordination, documentation and communication of medical services and/or benefit administration determinations. The Utilization Management Nurse 2 work assignments are varied and frequently require interpretation and independent determination of the appropriate courses of action.ResponsibilitiesThe Utilization Management Nurse 2 completes telephonic reviews with the Utilization Reviewer at the acute care facilities to obtain sufficient clinical information. The Utilization Management Nurse 2 uses clinical knowledge and independent critical thinking skills to apply the appropriate MCG criteria to make a medical necessity determination. In this role you will:
Complete telephonic reviews with facilities
Assess discharge plans
Discuss cases with Medical Directors
The required hours for this role are: Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday 8-6:30 p.m. in the time zone resided in.
Required Qualifications
Associate’s Degree in Nursing
Licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the (appropriate state) with no disciplinary action.
3 years or more of clinical experience
Comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Word
Ability to work independently under general instructions and with a team
Must have the ability to provide a high speed DSL or cable modem for a home office (Satellite and Wireless Internet service is NOT allowed for this role). A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 10x1 (10mbs download x 1mbs upload) is required
Desired Qualifications
Previous experience in utilization management
MCG criteria experience
BSN or Bachelor's degree in a related field
Health Plan experience
Bilingual is a plus
