Job ResponsibilitiesUnder general supervision, performs skilled tasks to maintain automotive or construction equipment. Exercises discretion in diagnosing and repairing mechanical problems in motorized equipment. Diagnoses and makes repairs to electrical systems and hydraulic systems to ensure proper and safe operation of dump trucks, pickup trucks, cars, and equipment. Performs duties as the assistant shop foreman. Repairs and maintains all vehicles and equipment such as engine overhaul, transmission repairs and overhaul and clutch replacements to both gas and diesel trucks. Performs skilled mechanical repairs and maintenance to motors, transmission, brakes, cooling and electrical systems on automotive and heavy equipment. Performs wiring repairs, brake jobs, and tune ups when required on vehicles. Operates CDL vehicles. Assumes duties of Shop Foreman in supervisor's absence. Performs other job related duties as required.Minimum and Additional RequirementsInternal Applicants OnlyTwo (2) years of work experience that involved the independent performance of job duties directly related to the area of employment; or an approved acceptable equivalence in accordance with State Human Resources Regulations. Completion of one (1) academic year of a South Carolina High School Automotive Technology or Diesel Engine curriculum may substitute for six (6) months of directly-related experience.A valid driver's license is required.Attainment of a class A commercial driver's license is required within 6 months of placement on the job.
