SUMMARY:

Primary function of this position is to ensure proper fleet management of assigned drivers and fleet by leveraging the appropriate dispatch process.

The Dispatcher will work under the direction of the assigned Manager/Supervisor to efficiently manage the operations, safety and driver retention.

The position requires professional communications, computer and presentation skills.

Position represents the company in a positive image with employees, customers and the community always performing in a safe and ethical manner.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

Manages the daily dispatch functions for all assigned drivers. Maintains knowledge of all processes and procedures required to execute assigned tasks.

Communicates service short falls to the Manager/Supervisor on duty.

Works with safety and compliance, recruiting and human resources to exceed driver retention and safety targets.

Ensures continuous communication regarding DOT, C-TPAT regulations, safety bulletins and corporate policies are available to and understood by assigned drivers.

Responsible for assisting the Compliance and Safety Department as it relates to holding assigned drivers accountable to DOT regulations, operations, equipment usage, and the administration of company policies.

Responsible for communicating with customers and shippers regarding any changes to schedules and pick up’s throughout the day.

Responsible for achieving the assigned Key Performance Indicators (KPI’s) targets, key network decisions including, but not limited to, loaded miles, on-time service, utilization, scan, deadhead, dwell targets, TMW accuracy and fuel efficiency within their control.

Works cross departmental to execute network driver capacity plans while eliminating long-term and short-term imbalances and ensures customer service commitments are met.

Demonstrates proficiency in the use of TMW/SSRS reporting, Peoplenet, PC Miler, and Inventory in Motion (IIM).

Maintains basic knowledge in the trucking industry on Department of Transportation (DOT) and C-TPAT regulations, seasonality, driver capacity and demographics trends.

Manages to operational standards for cost control, waste reduction, quality and safety to ensure on-time pick-ups and delivery.

Works with assigned drivers to meet/exceed expected service targets through:

o Accountability in achieving current and prospective KPI results.

o Properly executing the strategies identified by the Director/Manager.

o Works as a member of the team to successfully complete action plans assigned by the department Manager/Supervisor to ensure results are realized.

May be required to attend meetings as necessary and provide updates on the activities of the day.

Required to adhere to all BLS policies, procedures, DOT and OSHA safety rules and regulations. Strict adherence to C-TPAT best practices.

Follows all workplace processes and standards in support of the ISO-9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, and OHSAS 18000:2007

Required to attend and complete all company development, safety and compliance training.

Required to adhere to all BLS policies, procedures, DOT and OSHA safety rules and regulations. Strict adherence to C-TPAT best practices.

Other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Responsibilities include: planning, assigning, and directing work, appraising performance, rewarding and assisting in disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems.

May assists with interviewing, hiring, and training employees.

Responsibilities include: planning, assigning, and directing work, coaching, appraising performance, rewarding and assisting in disciplining employees, addressing complaints, employee engagement and resolving problems.

Assists with interviewing, hiring, safety, and training employees. Assists with daily, weekly and monthly KPI reporting as determined by the Manager.

Assists with analyzing performance gaps and creating action plans to address performance issues.

Responsible for continuous improvement and innovation as it related to improving processes, addressing performance, creating action plans and ensuring proper training and development of employees.

Responsible for maintaining a highly engaging culture, motivating employees, fostering an environment with high levels of teamwork, accountability, communication and vision to employees.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Associate’s or Bachelor Degree in management, transportation or a related field is required.

High school diploma or GED is required

SPECIAL SKILLS REQUIRED:

Must possess strong interpersonal skills.

Must demonstrate good communication skills both written and oral.

Must be able to manage multiple tasks and projects.

Must possess excellent computer skills and having working knowledge of Microsoft Office products software i.e.; Word, Outlook, and Excel.

Knowledge of Transportation fleet models; Customer Service; Project Management; Continuous Improvement deliverables;

Knowledge of complex Transportation concepts and projects.

Experience in DOT regulations and compliance, as well as Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations.
