We are a growing company in need of a new team member! We build and sell boat parts. Boat electrical dash panels and ship them all over the world!
All of the dash panels we build are made-to-order. They need to be designed in CAD software called CorelDraw.
This is an area we need help with, designing our dash panels in CAD. We have several designers, but its time for a dedicated person who will (mostly) be designing panels all day long.
We say mostly because theres another part of the job involving using a laser to mark and cut panel material out¦ so its not a 100% desk job. There is an opportunity to move around the shop and figuratively get your hands dirty.
Who were looking for:
1. Work Ethic Standard on all our job postings. We want to work with folks who have a genuine work ethic. Our business is busy and growing. Everyone here is on a mission to get crap done¦ this is NOT a place where youll spend half the day flipping through your phone. We want to work with people who genuinely want to work. To learn. To improve. To help us build a company.
2. Mechanically Inclined Youve got to have a head for this stuff¦ angles, measurements, etc¦ the kind of person who really enjoyed geometry class. Being comfortable with say, drawing a birdhouse out on graph paper, then building it.
3. Detailed & Thorough Our panels look beautiful. We want a designer who goes up and straightens the pictures at a friends house. Once the design is approved these things are going to actually be made¦ they need to be quality work before that happens.
4. Knows Boats Youre designing these things for boats¦ so its a huge plus to be a boating person, and have worked on or restored boats. To know that a single (M)-F-(M) switch labeled trim tabs on a new dash panel means theres probably a mistake here.
5. A Vector Designer Finally, youre going to be using CorelDraw to create vector artwork. So, we kind of need someone who can use vector editing software. Specifically CorelDraw or Illustrator, but other CAD SW experience considered as well.
Bottom Line: Some training on either #4 or #5 is available, but probably not both. If you have both boating and vector design experience please apply.
Typical Job Duties:
Read a work order and use the info to design dash panels in CorelDraw
Vectorize bitmap logos (simplify, join, weld curves, etc)
Duplicate old panels using measuring tools like a tape measure, and calipers
Operate various laser etching machines to cut and mark various materials
Create CNC machine toolpaths
Occasionally operate a CNC machine

Very anti-BS Were not a stuffy corporate place with strict hierarchy and layers of management bureaucracy. Anybody can (and should) walk into the owners office to discuss an issue, question or concern.
No Micro-Management Once youve shown you know a task, just go do it. We dont have time to stand over your shoulder watching every move.
No assholes Occasionally we deal with the customer ones we dont see coming¦ but not team members. We fire all genuine assholes.
PTO 1 week paid time off annually, increasing from there.

Salary We set salary based on value to the company. The more you learn, the more you can do, the better you do it and the harder you work¦ the more valuable you are, We see this job will starting in the $15-$18 range.
