Manager/Senior Manager, Greater China Public Affairs (12-month Contract)

Job Description

This role is based in Hong Kong focusing on Greater China. The objective is to raise CPP Investments’ profile among key stakeholders and create a favorable business environment for CPP Investments. The successful candidate will report to the Director, Greater China Public Affairs and have the opportunity to work with colleagues in Public Affairs and Communications (PAC) and other business departments across CPP Investments’.

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Support CEO, Head of Asia Pacific and other Senior Management team’s outreach programs and attendance/speaking role in high profile conferences and forums in this region;
  • Work closely with the Greater China Public Affairs team and other PAC colleagues in Toronto and regional offices to manage and execute CPP Investments’ public affairs and key thought leadership programs in this region;
  • Conduct in-depth research/analysis on key political, geopolitical issues and major public policy and regulatory changes in the financial and other key sectors related to our investment strategies in Greater China markets
  • Conduct political and regulatory risk assessment on our transactions and work with the investment teams to explore mitigants if applicable.
  • Support all elements related to regulatory approval for our transactions, in-market advocacy initiatives linked to opportunities and impediments to the business, as well as policy thought leadership programs such as joint research/seminar with the regulators, stakeholders and business organizations on key issues/themes in line with the country’s top policy priorities.
  • Develop /Contribute to the development of external communications materials, including key messages, speeches, PowerPoint presentations, talking points, briefing materials, etc.
  • Build and maintain stakeholder mapping database.

Qualifications

Position Requirements

  • Over 8 years’ experience in public affairs, public policy research or journalism.
  • Undergraduate and/or master’s degree in economics, finance, political science, international relations is preferred, and a legal background and knowledge of the investment industry would be considered an asset
  • With proven experience working in Asia and a multi-cultural organization, experience in event planning and execution will be an advantage;
  • Demonstrated ability to quickly understand the issues facing the organization and the industry in which it operates and be an effective problem-solving partner with investment teams in Asia.
  • Self-motivated, flexible, adaptable and able to work under pressure to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills both in English and Mandarin.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment and exhibit flexibility and adaptability to change.
  • Strict adherence to confidentiality and exhibiting a high level of professionalism at all times;
  • Detail and results-oriented and the ability to manage multiple projects at once.
  • Strength in project management to ensure the efficient and timely delivery of projects
