Hershey Medical CenterLocation: US:PA:HersheyWork Type: Part TimeFTE: 0.6Shift: VariedHours: VariedJoin a team of Laboratory professionals providing high quality diagnostic services that play a vital role in positive outcomes for our patients!JOB SUMMARY:The Medical Lab Technician is responsible for performing complex laboratory tests on blood, body fluids, cells, and tissues. Technicians will identify bacteria, parasites, and other microorganisms, analyze chemical content of fluids, and cross match blood for transfusion and organ transplantation, as well as aseptically prepare cells for use in cellular therapies. The results of these tests are used in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease.The Automated Testing Laboratory is a high-volume, fully automated lab that uses the Cobas 8000 modular analyzer series and automated track.MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:Associates degree for Medical Laboratory Technician or Bachelor’s degree in a chemical, physical, or biological science from an accredited institution required.MLT (ASCP) – Medical Laboratory Technician, American Society of Clinical Pathology Certification required OR must be ASCP certified within one year of employment at the Penn State Hershey Department of Pathology.Good customer service and communication skills requiredMust be self-motivated and able to prioritize work.Applicants trained outside of the United States must provide documentation of equivalency evaluation of their education and training to ensure it is equivalent to CLIA requirements. The equivalency evaluations will be performed by a nationally recognized organization. Ex: National Association Credential Evaluations Services, Inc. (NACES), the Association of International Credential Evaluators, Inc. (AICE). The applicants is responsible for paying the cost of the equivalency evaluation.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:Laboratory experience in a hospital setting preferredPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Able to stand frequently, walk frequently, sit constantly.Able to lift/carry 0-20 lbs frequently; 21-50 lbs occasionally.Able to push/pull 0-50 lbs occasionally.Able to climb occasionally, reach constantly.Able to use hands for simple/firm grasping.Appended to this job description is the Work Task Analysis that further describes the physical requirements appropriate for this role.ABOUT PENN STATE HEALTH:Penn State Health is one of the leading teaching and research hospitals in the country.
