Position: Mechanical / Electrical Engineer

Littau Harvester, an established OEM manufacturer of mobile equipment, is adding a mechanical engineering position. We are recruiting individuals that are looking for long term employment.

As a Mechanical Design Engineer, you will contribute to product development projects for the agricultural industry.

This position is responsible for designing and detailing parts and assemblies from conceptual sketches, specifications and verbal instructions. You will be performing mechanical, hydraulic and electrical design and drafting duties independently and with other engineering staff. Some manufacturing engineering will be required while working as a team to solve problems. Perform detailed and process oriented functions, use of excellent communication, organizational and analytical skills required. Work setting will be an office as well as the shop floor.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Design for manufacture, quality and reliability.

Provide product assembly design, part design, evaluation and documentation.

Create assembly drawings with accurate bill of materials.

Identify, evaluate and select materials and processes to product and design requirements.

Create hydraulic and electrical circuits and schematics.

Write manuals to describe function of equipment and process operations.

Provide design analysis and tolerance studies.

Execute design and development objectives.

Participate as a member of a team or lead team.

Identify, break down, and solve complex problems and provide technical direction to others for assigned projects.

Effectively direct (and potentially lead) the work of other engineers and engineering technicians to achieve objectives as necessary.

Support multiple individual and team projects while handling multiple tasks to successfully meet all deadlines. Function as project leader when assigned.

Document and communicate project status, changes, and other information to manager and other engineering personnel.

Support production by troubleshooting and optimizing plant manufacturing process as directed.

Continuously improve product quality, increase efficiency, and reduce production down time.

Identify root causes of product defects and low productivity, and implement solutions to prevent reoccurrence.

Answer questions from the shop personnel as directed.

Follows all company policies.

Represent company with the highest standard of professional conduct when interacting with co-workers, customers, and/or vendors.

Qualifications, Experience and Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent discipline.

Be able to demonstrate a minimum of 5 years verifiable hands-on mechanical design experience with increasing design and or project responsibility.

Exceptional, demonstrated mechanical design skills, understanding of mechanical systems and manufacturing processes. Being an innovative thinker with excellent problem solving skills is important.

Effective written and oral communication skills.

Be able to design machinery and parts in 3D CAD software to fit required application specifications. Demonstrated knowledge and practical application of software, SolidWorks preferred.

Strong computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook.

Must know how to detail parts to ANSI standards and or Littau Harvester standards.

Mobile equipment design experience a plus.

Excellent interpersonal skills with team members, customers and suppliers. Be able to take instruction and maintain responsibility.

Travel to customer sites may be required at times. Travel may include weekends and holidays, and may be scheduled at short notice.

Discuss projects with supervisor and other employees to review design intent, functions of machines and equipment.

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret most documents. Ability to respond effectively with co-workers, and customers. Ability to write operating manuals in the English language.

Ability to comprehend and apply principles of advanced geometry, algebra and trigonometry. Ability to work with concepts such as limits, engineering equations, kinematics and stress calculations.

Knowledge of material application.

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusion to then develop reasonable solutions.

Able to motivate others and create a climate in which others want to do their best.

Demonstrated decision making and effective team skills, able to work independently or collaboratively as needed.

Flexible and comfortable with change and management concepts.

Capable of handling high workloads in a dynamic work environment, while maintaining cooperation.

Commitment to continuous improvement in processes and technical knowledge and use performance data for improvement in key areas. Maintain responsibility for work done. Must be willing to learn.

Must pass pre-employment drug screen and background check.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be asked to work in manufacturing plants doing field measurements and/or performing machinery startups. This work may require the employee to work near moving mechanical parts. The employee may also occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals in the plant environments. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Hours: 50 hours per week. Full time position.
