TITLE: Mental Health Counselor, Peer

DEPARTMENT: Old Town Recovery Center, Assertive Community Treatment Team (ACT)

SALARY: DOE

SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday 8:30am-5:00pm, Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including some holidays and weekends. Must share in a regular rotating on-call shift approximately every 6 weeks in which one must be able to respond to needs for crisis support 24/7 in the community.

SUMMARY: The Mental Health Counselor, Peer works as a member of a multi-disciplinary team providing intensive case management and integrated dual diagnosis treatment. The team works to address all treatment needs, including crisis management, substance abuse treatment, medication management, physical health treatment, mental health treatment, accessing benefits and entitlements, accessing appropriate and affordable housing.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Completion of High School or GED. QMHA (Bachelors degree in Behavioral Sciences field or a combination of at least three years work, education, training or experience in chemical dependency or mental health treatment) preferred

2. Must be a self-identified person currently or formerly receiving mental health services; or a self-identified person in recovery from a substance use disorder, who meets the abstinence requirements for recovery staff in alcohol and other drug treatment programs; or a family member of an individual who is a current or former recipient of addictions or mental health services. Person must identify on the application or cover letter how they have lived personal experience leading to an understanding of the needs of persons with mental health & substance abuse issues.

3. Must be certified by an Oregon State Addictions & Mental Health approved training as Peer Specialist at time of hire or within first 6 months.

4. Must meet CCC privileging requirements as required by FTCA.

5. Has the competencies necessary to:

a. Communicate effectively;

b. Understand mental health assessment, treatment and service terminology and to apply the concepts:

c. Provide psychosocial skills development; and

d. Implement interventions prescribed on a treatment plan.

6. Will be required to carry an agency cell phone for work use. Cell phone will be provided by Central City Concern.

7. Must be available for after hours and holiday coverage rotation.

8. Must possess a current drivers license, access to a vehicle, qualify as an Acceptable Driver as designated in Central City Concerns Fleet Safety policy. Must pass an initial drivers training within 60 days of being an approved driver and continued recertification training. Must maintain vehicle insurance coverage of a minimum of $100,000/$300,000 personal auto liability coverage.

9. If in recovery, must be able to document continuous abstinence under independent living conditions or recovery housing for the immediate past two years.

10. Must pass a pre-employment drug screen, TB test, and background check. This includes clearance by the DHS Background Check Unit

11. Physical ability to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, twist, reach, pull and lift heavy objects.

12. Must be able to climb stairs several times a day.

13. Must adhere to agencys non-discrimination policies.

14. Ability to effectively interact with co-workers and clients with diverse ethnic backgrounds, religious views, cultural backgrounds, life-styles, and sexual orientations and treat each individual with respect and dignity.
