30-40 hours per week, permanent year-round position, Long-term Management Potential
Whistling Duck Farm Store is part of a small-scale organic vegetable farm and kitchen. We serve a community committed to supporting organic, sustainable and local businesses, and we have created a venue not only for our own products but also as an outlet for other local producers. We also create a fermented foods and value-added products line, which we market primarily through our storefront.
Ideal candidate is inspired by the excitement of a dynamic, fast-paced, varied and creative workplace; is comfortable working as part of a team on a working farm; is capable of on-the-ground problem-solving and maintaining production and success under changing circumstances; and is knowledgeable of natural foods, organic farming and nutrition. This position requires excellent organizational skills coupled with a flexible, adaptable nature; a keen eye for aesthetic; excellent sales, customer service and communication skills; and a desire to help grow our young, "locavore" store. A background in retail sales and a passion for community connection, organic farming, local food and craft, healthy eating and an eco-aware lifestyle are all pluses.
Duties include: staffing the store; maintaining daily and seasonal task schedules; participating in coordination between field, kitchen and store; communicating effectively with other store staff; developing merchandising and product displays, signage and other marketing materials; stocking; placing and receiving orders, including working with local vendors; prepping fresh-harvested produce; handling bulk goods; setting up displays; computer data set-up and entry. Must be able to lift 50 lbs. An optimistic can-do attitude, capable of creating inspiration and sales opportunities throughout the season, and a willingness to enthusiastically do what ever needs done is an absolute must.
Salary - Hourly DOE.
