The skills coach supervisor is tasked with supervising and supporting a team of skills coaches at our New Beginnings location in Grants Pass, Oregon. The Skills Coach position gives support to our youth on a daily basis: being a safe and caring resource while supporting the youth's psychiatric goals by utilizing coping skills, emotional response, and collaborative problem solving. Our inpatient treatment center works with youth age 11-17 years old.

QMHA Skills Coach Supervisor – Grants Pass, Oregon

Job Description

Primary Purpose: The skills coach supervisor is tasked with training and supervising the skills coaches at our New Beginnings location in Grants Pass, Oregon. We are looking for someone who can monitor, give feedback, support, and assist their team as well as assist in the care treatment of youth and young adults with psychiatric needs by providing consistent skills training and emotional support in a safe and secure manner.

Minimum Qualifications:

Must meet Qualified Mental Health Associate (QMHA) classifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a Behavioral Science related field or

an Associates in a Behavioral Science plus at least one year of work experience in Human Service/Mental Health field or

A High School diploma and three years of work experience in Human Service/Mental Health field.

Prior management, supervisory, or leadership experience preferred.

Additional Qualifications

Provide proof of current, valid Oregon Driver's License (or if out-of-state will obtain Oregon license within 30 days), comprehensive automobile insurance (if applicable) and a safe driving record (minimum of 3 yrs.) to use company or personal vehicle for required duties.

Successfully pass a Criminal Background Check and Medicaid Fraud Check.

Obtain and maintain current Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) Certification and demonstrate proficiency in TCI Certification procedures.

Obtain and maintain current First Aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification and Food Handlers Card.

Obtain and maintain National Provider Identification (NPI) number and credentialing application process.

· Be able to sit at a computer for several hours to make medical notes, send emails, etc.

· Be able to observe, ascertain, and give feedback to peers

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Deliver and coordinate skills training and psychiatric services for youth and families.

Establish rapport by demonstrating and maintaining clear, consistent, appropriate, and therapeutic boundaries.

Demonstrate alignment with the philosophy of Collaborative Problem Solving (CPS) by utilizing the approach in interactions with youth and young adults, families, staff, and community partners.

Actively supervise and interact with youth in the community and provide psychiatric services.

Effectively and precisely be able to ascertain when it is necessary for the safety of the youth and others when to use a manual restraint.

Effectively coach and give feedback to teammates on their interactions with the youth, therapeutic interventions, and use of clear and consistent boundaries when skills coaches interact with youth.

Demonstrate knowledge of youth development and group dynamics by adjusting therapeutic approaches to developmental level and group interactions.

Provide transportation of youth or assistance of transportation for appointments and activities.

Provide individual and group skills training and coaching within skill areas including but not limited to: self-care, wellness, emotional regulation, education, coping skills, navigating and interpersonal communication.

Safely de-escalate youth, including in crisis situations, by effectively using verbal intervention skills.

Concisely and thoroughly document daily clinical information. Provide timely accurate documentation to meet billing requirements. Must adhere to Oregon Administrative Rule (OAR) and standards of care.

Plan the shift flow, assure that structures, ratios and routines are maintained and followed, activities are carried out, and individual and group needs are addressed.

Promote positive staff relations through communication and implementation of agency policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.

Delegate tasks and responsibilities to assure smooth team function and task completion.

Provide and administratively document individual supervision for assigned Skills Coaches. Ensure ongoing performance management and completion of performance appraisals.

Address issues of concern with supervisors immediately or at the next supervision session.

Provide program support to clinician in documentation of care plans.

Demonstrate a high level of competence and problem-solving skills in risk management, therapeutic interventions, and decision making while considering impact on youth, staff, and other departments.

Abide by ethical codes, mission, values, and professional standards, including confidentiality.

Working knowledge and ability to utilize, reference, and follow agency policies, procedures, and guidelines to provide immediate action in daily responsibilities.

Present a positive attitude, professional demeanor and demonstrated respect with youth, families, staff, visitors, and community partners.

Perform all work tasks in a proper and safe manner per established policies, procedures, and guidelines to prevent unnecessary injury, time loss and agency expense.

Comply with all federal, state and agency health and safety reporting requirements.

Perform all essential Skills coach duties alongside there team and be a constant support to both youth, and teammates.

Day Treatment locations and New Beginnings occasionally utilize TCI techniques and principles to manually restrain. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain a current Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Certification (that we train for and test on-site). To safely use TCI techniques, you will need to be able withstand occasional intense physical exertion caused by:

Dropping to the knees, supporting another person's weight

Arm and shoulder range of motion involving bending at the elbow and moving at shoulder

Ability to remain balanced while holding a struggling youth

Ability to go from a seated position to a standing position without difficulty

Ability to quickly twist and turn
