Medford is one of the most beautiful areas of the Pacific Northwest and is located in Jackson County, Oregon. Situated in the heart of the scenic Rogue Valley, Medford, population 81,000, is the hub of Oregon's fourth-largest metropolitan area. Located along I-5 in southern Oregon, just 20 miles from the California border, Medford is surrounded by breathtaking mountains in a region featuring world-class outdoor recreation opportunities, including Crater Lake National Park and the Oregon Coast. As the largest city between Eugene and Sacramento, Medford is a growing city with a high quality of life, a growing economy and a moderate climate.

This recruitment is to hire two (2) full-time positions and to establish an eligibility list for future openings. This position will be required to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and days off.

There is a written test scheduled Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. which everyone that applies is invited and required to attend in order to be considered.

This position is under general supervision of the Police Records Supervisor, the Police Records Specialist performs complex clerical and technical work involving extensive computer entry, scans, retrieval and distribution of sensitive, confidential information involved in maintaining police records. This position is trained in Department policies, procedures, and systems.

Salary differentials include up to 3% shift differential. Up to 10% education differential available after 12 month probationary period, 4.5% bilingual incentive.

Typical Job Duties:

These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization. This position:

Performs extensive computer entry; scans and retrieves sensitive confidential information involved in police reports into state, federal and local computer systems. (Some information and images can be graphic and possibly unsettling in nature).

Files police reports and related documents and maintains organized and accurate filing systems.

Assists citizens with complaints, collects monies for various fees, releases impounded vehicles, registers sex offenders, and provides general public information.

Distributes police reports to courts, public, governmental agencies and other authorized individuals, following department policy, state and federal laws.

Transcribes police reports, victim and suspect statements, and search warrants from digital recorders. Handles cash for sale of reports, photos and vehicle releases, issues receipts and balances cash for shift.

Scope of assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the Police Chief.

Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.

Must have the ability to handle job stress and interact effectively with others in the workplace.

Must be honest and truthful in all tasks and responsibilities.

Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.

Job Qualifications:

One year of clerical experience.

Must possess a high school diploma or GED, preferably supplemented by courses in business and computer technology and/or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Current technical/professional knowledge of complex principles, methods, standards and techniques associated with the scope of work of a recognized profession, such as: Use computer and other technical equipment effective and efficiently and ability to perform work with accuracy during periods of peak activity with frequent interruptions.

Possession of Law Enforcement Data System (LEDS) Certification within 30 days of hire.

May require possession of a valid driver's license by date of hire. New employees establishing resident status in the State of Oregon must obtain an Oregon driver's license within 30 days (ORS 807.020 (1)).

Special Requirements:

Working rotating shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, and days off will be required.

Ability to type net 40 WPM minimum requirement.

Ability to interact well with the public.

Proficiency in computer word processing.

Spanish/English bilingual desired.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

Incumbents may be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, poor ventilation, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures, intense noises and travel.

Selection Process: Applications will be reviewed by the Police Department. Selection process will include a written exam on Saturday, June 15, 2019 at 8:00 a.m. at the Police Department, 219 S. Ivy, Medford, Oregon in the Prescott Room. Please allow 3 hours total for testing.

Parking is not monitored on the weekends. Applicants may park at City Hall or any adjacent streets.

All applicants will be invited to the written test and will be required to pay a non-refundable test fee of $10. We will accept exact cash or check, we do not have the ability to accept debit/credit cards. YOU MUST BRING VALID PHOTO IDENTIFICATION WITH YOU TO BE ADMITTED TO THE TEST.

Applicants must be able to appear for the written exam. There are currently no online or proctored test options available. There is no make-up or alternative testing session.

Candidates identified as most qualified will be referred to the Police Department for interview and typing test with final appointment by the City Manager. Finalists will be subject to a background investigation. Hiring is subject to successful pre-employment drug screen and psychological screening. Those selected must provide proof of legal right to work in this country. Selection procedures and time lines are subject to change.
