SummaryThe Deschutes County District Attorney's Office is currently accepting applications a Deputy District Attorney. The Deputy District Attorney's perform professional legal work in an assigned area. The incumbent is responsible for the analysis, preparation, negotiation and litigation of a full range of criminal cases. The Deputy District Attorney is appointed by the District Attorney and is responsible for representing the State of Oregon by upholding State and Federal law in reviewing, preparing, and prosecuting criminal cases in Deschutes County. Attorneys are assigned to perform some or all functions of the District Attorney's Office, including criminal case intake, guidance to law enforcement, appearances before the grand jury, circuit and juvenile courts, and to serve in other areas as directed. This union-represented position is available immediately.Minimum QualificationsGraduation from an accredited school of law and must be a member in good standing with the Oregon State Bar. Must have superior communication skills, both orally and written. Preference will be given for:

5 years of experience as a prosecutor or criminal defense attorney handling traffic crimes including major felonies.

Must have some knowledge of:

Criminal law and the practices and procedures of criminal prosecution.

Courtroom and trial procedures.

Legal research methods.

Must have the ability to:

Analyze facts, evidence and precedents to arrive at logical conclusions.

Collect analyze and interpret data using accepted legal research procedures and methods.

Work effectively independently as well as in a team.

Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees, clients and agencies at all times.

Work effectively with diverse populations.

Necessary Special RequirementsPossession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history, driving history, and controlled substances (NOTE: Positive test results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent offer of employment). This screening must be completed with satisfactory findings in order for a formal offer of employment to be extended.Physical Requirements:Must have the ability to work in an office that is environmentally controlled; possess sufficient hand coordination to perform keyboarding and data entry; arm/hand movements to retrieve work materials and operate a variety of general office equipment. The position is frequently required to sit, walk, stoop, bend, kneel, reach, stand, grasp, talk, hear, see, and may occasionally lift up to 10 pounds.Excellent County benefit package when eligible.Deschutes County offers eligible employees a comprehensive health care package that covers medical, prescription, dental, and vision coverage for employees and their eligible dependents at a minimal cost of $90 per month.
