The Runner works as a team with other Dietetics & Nutrition staff to ensure that the patient's Room Service experience is a positive one. The Runner is responsible for verifying that the meal is complete, in accordance with the diet order and delivered to the correct patient. The Runner must follow personal protective equipment precautions before entering a patient room. Duties also include cleaning and assisting the Cook as needed. This position involves a considerable amount of walking.PREFERRED: High School/GEDVerifies accuracy of order - 35%
Assists Cook in preparing food trays
Checks patient meal against tray ticket to verify accuracy of order
Verifies that silverware, cups, bowls are clean and present on tray
Checks bottom of ticket to verify all allergy and food consistency orders have been followed
Sanitizes hands before leaving kitchen
Marks down room number that is the next delivery on room list
Delivers meal to patient - 20%
Checks with Nursing before delivering any trays to Diabetic patients
Greets patient by knocking on door and announcing name and department
Verifies that the patient’s name is the same name as on the ticket. (Asks patient or checks armband, name at food of bed)
Places meal on bedside table. Asks patient if food looks OK. If patient wants anything more, ask them to call x8716 and place order through our Hostess.
Follows all infection control policies and procedures - 25%
Refers to and follows all precaution information outside patient’s door before entering room.
Sanitizes hands when leaving room
Removes dirty trays and delivers to main dish room - 10%
Within one hour of food delivery, returns to patient room to ask if patient is finished with meal
Asks patient if they were satisfied with their meal. Reports any problems to Manager.
Gathers all leftover food items and trash with the tray.
Refers all non-dietary questions that the family may have to Nursing.
Washes hands before leaving room. Removes gown, gloves and mask before leaving room.
Takes dirty trays to utility room and places on dirty tray cart. Checks for personal belongings left on tray
Delivers floor supplies - 5%
Delivers floor supplies to the location specified on the floor order
Unloads items from cart while checking floor order to verify accuracy
Checks expiration dates on food
Places cold items in refrigerator or freezer
Places all other items on counter for Nursing to put away
Notifies Diet Assistant if anything is missing from the order
Delivers snacks at specified times - 5%
Checks with Nursing to make sure the diabetic patient may have the snack
Checks with Hostess before delivering a Nursing requested snack
Performs assigned vending duties at Director’s discretion.
