Job Description

NOTE: This is a temporary hourly position for 6 months, expected to be 30-40+ hours per week, with the possibility of extension.

  • Performs engineering design of mechanical equipment, material handling and piping as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Reviews and confirms engineering deliverables are complete, technically accurate, and in compliance with applicable codes, standards, and specifications.
  • Supports equipment procurement by producing purchasing documentation, soliciting quotations, and evaluating vendor bids.
  • Produces engineering proposals, cost estimates, schedules, and other documentation to support project development.
  • Manages small and medium-sized projects, ensuring they stay within budget and meet client requirements.
  • Provides design advice and support to designers and AutoCAD operators.
  • Understands and implements all relevant systems, standards, practices, and procedures required by the contract.
  • Maintains health, safety and environmental focus to ensure that these elements are embedded in the design and procurement processes.
  • Working with and mentoring junior engineers.

Qualifications

  • Mechanical Engineering degree from a recognized institution.
  • Registered as a Professional Engineer with EGBC or another Canadian jurisdiction, an asset.
  • Ideally, 3-6 years of relevant Engineering experience in a heavy industrial setting;

    Oil & Gas, pulp and paper, Mining or biofuels industry is an asset
  • Ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with team members; proficient in oral and written communication.
  • Proactive with a high degree of initiative.
  • Highly organized, with the ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Cross-functional knowledge and experience with process P&IDs and process design, as well as coordination experience with civil/structural and electrical design, is preferred.
  • Excellent grasp of engineering principles and experience assessing complex systems.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work in both a design office and operating plant environments
  • Ability to travel to client sites as needed
  • Project Management & Organizational skills is an asset
  • Bilingual language skills an asset - English/French

NOTE: Must have a valid Driver’s licence as there will be some travel required to industrial sites, primarily in British Columbia.
