Food Service Workers in the Nutrition and Food Services Department provide support services in preparing foods, tray delivery and related duties to serve the best patients - Veterans!ResponsibilitiesThe major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assembles, portions, and garnishes all items prepared in the salad and dessert preparation area; Maintains proper personal hygiene during food preparation and service (including hand washing, etc.); Utilizes information from Computer printouts to create the CLC dining room special trays and special trays for serving hospital salads and desserts in the Pod area; Places the appropriate foods in the correct locations from service; Follows proper sanitation procedures in the preparation and service of cold food items; Assists patients in completion of selective menu and choice of the proper foods according to their individual diet during tray pick up; Identifies discrepancies between the prescribed diet and the food items designated on the menu; Uses the correct combination/measurement of cleaning and sanitizing agents when cleaning equipment.; Inventories and orders for daily usage, such items as regular and low salt butter, frozen juices, salt free bread, etc.; Labels, covers, stores and dates food according to sanitation practices; Washes pots and pans, cleans dirty end of dish machine; Delivers and picks up food trays at patient bedside on in the dining room; Assists dinner cook in the evening to assemble "hot" special items, gathers utensils in the steam tables; Prepares sandwiches for cold sack lunches, labels, and dates with a "use by" dates and discards any food items that have been expired; and Performs other duties as assigned Work Schedule: Varies Sunday through Saturday, to include rotating holidays and weekends. Schedule determined upon hire, typical hours of 6:00 am - 2:30 pm, 6:30 am - 3:00 pm, 6:45 am - 3:15 pm, 11:00 am - 7:30 pm or as needed per scheduling.Position Description Title/PD#: Food Service Worker/PD40144APhysical Requirements: Employee must be able to lift moderately heavy boxes, garbage cans, trays, racks and push food carts. Walks or stands continuously while working. Work involves bending, stooping, lifting and stretching. Must be able to lift objects 10-30 pounds frequently, and occasionally up to 45 pounds. May be required to work on ladders and use powered cleaning equipment.The work is performed in kitchen areas where steam and heat from cook and dishwashing equipment often create uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity. The work area is well lighted but usually noisy from food serviced activities, and there is a danger of slipping on floors where food or beverages have been spilled. Food service workers are regularly exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature ranges when entering walk-in refrigerator or freezing units.
