CREDENTIALED MEDICAL ASSISTANT-UNC FAMILY MED AT BLUE RIDGEJob ID: MED0038DBecome part of an inclusive organization with over 30,000 diverse employees, whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of the unique communities we serve.Job DescriptionPosition: Credentialed Medical AssistantThe essential duties and responsibilities of a Credentialed Medical Assistant include:-Participating in all safety practices as required by the department by adhering to the institution's and department's policies, procedures and regulatory standards-Providing direct patient care under the delegation of licensed nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physiciansand documenting any care provided in the patient's medical record-Collaborating with the nurses and providers to implement a plan of care and reinforce patient education-Administering medication per role and pharmacy approval-Dressing wounds-Obtaining EKG and/or Rhythm Strips -Applying the heart monitor on patients as ordered by the physicians, hooking up the monitor, enrolling the patient with Life Watch over the phone, sending a baseline EKG transmission and instructing the patient on the use of the monitor -Assisting with and operating equipment as required by the assigned patient population, cleaning and maintaining the EKG machines and calling a representative when the machine is not working properly-Performing daily quality control on the defibulator at the nurse's station-Performing administrative functions as required by the department-Accepting supervision and training from RNs, nurse practitioners, physician assistants and physicians to establish and maintain clinical competencies required by the department-Contributing to performance improvement activities Other duties may be assigned.The Credentialed Medical Assistant provides routine clinical and administrative support to providers and other health care team members in an outpatient clinic setting. The Credentialed Medical Assistant works under the clinical supervision of the provider for patient care activities, and under the general direction of the designated manager/supervisor for non-clinical responsibilities.QualificationsRequires high school diploma or equivalent.Completion of a Medical Assisting program accredited by either the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) or the Accreditation Bureau of Health Education Schools (ABHES) is strongly preferred but not required.Prior medical assistant or medical assistant externship experience preferred.Requires Medical Assistant certification by either the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA), American Medical Technologists (AMT), National Healthcareer Association (CCMA) or National Center for Competency Testing (NCMA).Prefer candidates with current Basic Life Support Certification from American Heart Association at the time of hire.
