Job Description

MAJOR JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform general medical care for patients as needed, primarily taking every patient’s vitals prior to every visit with the Physician.
  • Coordinate patient intake and flow in the clinic for all Physicians so that patients are seen in an efficient and timely manner.
  • Reconciles all lab orders with results and notifies Physicians of any irregular results immediately, if critical.
  • Maintain proper stock of all medical supplies.
  • Maintains all clinic rooms stock with supplies needed on a daily basis.
  • Assure that bio hazardous waste is disposed of properly.
  • Assure that reusable equipment is cleaned and decontaminated before reuse.
  • Obtains patient’s medical history, including changes since last seen, and updates chart using an EHR.
  • Attend educational programs to keep current on all areas of responsibility.

In addition to the above responsibilities, this position might perform the following functions as needed:

  • Assist physician with exams and procedures as requested and as specified in policies and procedures.
  • Schedule tests, procedures and outside referrals as ordered by physician.
  • Document all patient interactions in chart, return calls as ordered by physician.
  • Draw labs using proper technique and assure the patients are compliant with scheduled lab work.
  • Administer injections as ordered by the Physician.
  • Answer telephone calls from patients.
  • Schedule appointments for patients.
  • Fill out insurance forms.
  • Fill out relief programs forms.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

The following are the

minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job:

Education: High School Diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED) required, Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited vocational institution, or a community college course in medical assisting.

MUST have appropriate certificate indicating passing grade as a CMA (certifications allowed from Center for Competency Testing and American Association of Medical Assistants, American Medical Technologists, and The National Health Career Association).

Work Experience: Minimum of one year as a Certified Medical Assistant (required). Vital signs, venipuncture, capillary, and injection current experience .

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required: Knowledge of health care filed and medical office protocols / procedures Knowledge of information that must be conveyed to patients and families Knowledge of EHR and general computer systems Skill in performing medical assistance tasks appropriately Skill in tact and diplomacy in interpersonal interactions Skill in understanding patient education needs by effectively sharing information with patients and families Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures Ability to project a pleasant and professional image Ability to plan, prioritize, and complete delegated tasks Ability to demonstrate compassion and caring in dealing with others Ability to handle problem situations effectively and discreetly Thorough knowledge of English language, spoken and written

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Must be able to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods of time
  • Must be able to communicate well with verbal instruction, in person and on the phone
  • Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifiting boxes and equipment up to 25 lbs.
  • Requires correct vision and hearing to normal range
  • Requires occasional bending, twisting, squatting and kneeling in office
  • This position requires tasks that involve actual or potential for mucous membrane or skin contact with blood, body fluids, or tissues. Universal precautions apply (all people should be assumed to be infectious for blood borne pathogens and take universal precautions to prevent communicable disease transmission).
