Title: Risk Analyst Model Risk ManagementLocation: United States-Connecticut-HartfordOther Locations: United States-North Carolina-CharlotteJob Number: 1901983Models are employed acrossThe Hartford for a variety of business purposes using both traditional methodsand increasingly employing predictive modeling techniques, Machine Learning,Cognitive Computing, Unsupervised Learning, and Augmented Intelligence in manyfunctional areas. The Hartford’sEnterprise Model Risk Management group is responsible for managing model riskacross the company and collaborates with the various lines of business toprovide for the effective challenge of models through comprehensive modelvalidations. In addition, the group isresponsible for managing model risk across the enterprise by implementingconsistent policies, standards, and maintaining appropriate model oversight.The successful candidate willlead efforts for the validation of models and the reporting of results andrecommendation to key stakeholders across a wide range of functionalareas. As part of the validationprocess, complementary responsibilities include educating on modeling bestpractices and spreading model risk awareness across the enterprise. Businesses and functional areas collaboratingwith the model validation group include, but are not limited to, elements ofCommercial and Personal Lines indications, pricing, underwriting, reserving andclaims, as well as investment asset valuation, risk management & reporting,economic capital, and accounting.Collaboration with this breadth of businesses and functional areasprovides the Model Risk Management group with unique experiences and broadexposure to various business and decision making processes.Contribute to the ongoingexecution of the model risk management function, specifically:

The team performs validations onimportant models across The Hartford’s lines of business including traditionalactuarial models as well as predictive modeling techniques, Machine Learning, CognitiveComputing, Unsupervised Learning, and Augmented Intelligence

Perform necessary work to validatesignificant changes on critical/important models

Act as a liaison between Model RiskManagement and the businesses to strengthen partnerships and identifyopportunities for value creation via risk mitigation, improved modeling methodsand efficiencies

Support the development ofprioritized, consistent, risk-based approaches to the validation procedures ofall models, including:

Reviewing key data and assumptionsfor accuracy / appropriateness

Ensuring that model calculationsare accurate, appropriate and properly documented

Reviewing model outputs foraccuracy, appropriate usage and proper documentation of associated estimatesand assumptions

Critically reviewing modelingelements such as inputs, calculations, outputs, conceptual soundness,monitoring & controls, documentation, etc.

Build strong workingrelationships with key partners across the enterprise, including Data Science,Property & Casualty, HIMCO, and a number of Corporate functionsPro-actively stay informed ofdepartment initiatives, deliverables, and reportingAssist in improving TheHartford’s Model Risk Management program, by implementing best practices,recommending process improvements, and evolving standards/guidelinesQualifications:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Economics,Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline

Advanced degree in Finance, Actuarial Science, Economics,Accounting, Engineering, Mathematics or a related discipline preferred

ACAS or FCAS designation also preferred

Practical experience with predictive modeling / data sciencetechniques also preferred

Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience at an insurance orfinancial services company with specific experience building or supportingmodels

Strong analytical, critical and investigative thinking skills

Strong teamwork skills

Project management skills a plus

Practical experience in financial reporting desirable

Convincing verbal communication, listening, appropriateinfluencing and push-back skills; solid written communication skills

Ability to act independently with little direction; initiativetaking, proactive self-directed accountability

Solution oriented creativity and innovative thinking

Familiarity with different programming languages/technologyplatforms including Excel/VBA, R, Python, SAS/SQL, C#, MATLAB

Familiarity with SR 11-7: Guidance on Model Risk Management viewedas favorable

This role may be filled as a T8 or T7 depending upon experience
