About the Organization: The North Carolina Glass Center is a non-profit, public access glass art facility and gallery. Dedicated to education, exploration, and collaboration in all forms of glass, our low-cost shared studios help emerging artists launch their careers. Our furnaces, torches, and kilns enable established glass artists to pursue new and ambitious challenges. Our gallery showcases the finest works from undiscovered to established glass artists in Western North Carolina. And our instructional program provides thousands of aspiring glass art students with high quality, affordable instruction. We believe in the transformative power of working in the glass arts, which we share through offering free glass classes to local Veterans and youth living in low income neighborhoods surrounding the River Arts District.

Position Summary: Primary responsibilities are customer service, education and sales, which promote and enhance the NC Glass Center commitment to excellence and education, which support the mission and culture of the organization. Gallery staff assists with merchandising of work, customer service and promotion of our educational & community based mission.

This is a 12-20 hour per week, mostly weekend hours, living wage certified, non-exempt, year-round position.

Responsibilities:

Welcome all customers

Educate the public on our mission, the works on display, and the artists represented

Assist customers with purchases, providing customers services such as wrapping & shipping

Schedule and book classes

Assist with special events

Work with other team members to complete tasks

Answer general questions about studio and classes.

Provide administrative support to NCGC’s leadership staff and gallery

Accepts other duties as assigned.

Flexibility to work on holidays / weekends

Participate in training sessions & monthly all studio meetings

Qualifications:

Sales experience,

Self-motivated and driven

Strong multi-tasking skills

Highly organized and self-motivated.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Good sense of humor and ability to work in a team-based environment.

Professionalism and a clean, well-groomed appearance.

Ability to engage visitors in a helpful and welcoming manner.

Knowledge of glass techniques and materials is preferred.

Ability to work 12-20 hours per week.

Must be able to work in both the heat and minimally heated space throughout the 8-hour or longer work day.
